Ok John. You've got me convinced. I'm taking off the winglets and sending them back.

Tom,

Seriously, I appreciate your taking my jibes in good humor.

My "position" on "things for sale" is nothing new as Tim referenced.

I would love to be proved wrong. When I poke, it can draw two responses from the marketer, be it Camguard, Real Clean, winglets for a piston, or Snyder speed mods for my C-180. They can "prove" me wrong with some semblance of a controlled test, or keep quiet. I will draw my on inferences from that.

If it makes you and Tim fell better, I am seriously tempted to try some of Snyder's speed mods on the 180 and they come with nothing but marketing claims and "anecdotal" evidence. :bugeye:

But again, you are a gentleman in your responses and if you are ever around KGNF, I keep good wine and good whiskey close by and cook a mean steak; though the last statement comes with no controlled substantiation.

Fly safe. :peace:

Jgreen :D

Being one NOT afraid to argue with a Lawyer....the fastest 180 I have ever flown has the Snyder speed mods. What a scooter

Good luck with the CFI training Forrest! If you're half as articulate verbally as you are with the written word, you'll be a great instructor.

I just finished my MEL, and the first thing I did was meet up with Jimmy Mullen, who offered to take me for a ride in his 700 Superstar. All I can say is WOW!

Dad loved the back seats, too. With the middle seats out, he called it a flying limousine.

Edit: Oh yeah, and it had winglets, which I do think look pretty cool.

If you buy an Aerostar, keep Jimmy's number handy. He is great at sourcing odd parts.

Tom,

Forrest and I have debated many aspects of the Aerostar; all in good humor and even when we disagreed, we came away stronger friends.

I think a fly off between our Aerostars would be great fun for both of us.

Now, you are going to come in from the sidelines, draw up the rules and dictate a $25,000 bet?

Surely not.

Aubey,

As you well know, if I install the Snyder mods, it will be almost entirely on your recommendation. The nice thing is that if they don't work, I can blame you.

I would love to see the winglet discussion/debate here ended. A wonderful suggestion would be to replace that with planning the fly off. Nothing better than to watch a close competitive contest.

The Where is set.

The when next big question.

JGG et al what are the rules for the contest.

Thoughts?

Always like a nice race Aubie but the key to any gathering is the FOOD! What's to eat on the menu? Sure enjoyed those catfish filets we had at the EAA gathering at the grass strip in MS this summer(when I finally spotted it with your sons help). No Aerostars in attendance but then Rwy wasn't long enough and the small fences and power lines looked menacing to a big bad bird that day.... No issue for the lowly TD's in attendance.

May I suggest crow for the loser? Tony Armour and some car guys could bring some metal to race on the ground for entertainment whilst the A's were gone chasing dreams. Give me some time I could come up with a weekend event before long....

Great story, Tom. Now, I understand why you like Turbo Barons. The 56 would make a good dragster if you could keep it going straight. Mine with nearly empty tanks will pull itself around with the brakes locked.

Back in Home in Virginia.

Cessna 172RG from KSEE to KRNM
Then Aerostar from KRNM to KOWP to KORF.

Took 24 min on the ground to fuel, in KOWP, slammed in an extra 10 (?) Gallons, which took a few extra min. Total time from KRNM was just over nine hours.

For those who have an interest in my late in life attempt to give a bit back:

I didn't pass the oral.

Evaluator said I knew the stuff but I wasn't up to snuff presenting it.

I'm not quiting, but I can't camp out in the El Cajon Motel Six any longer.

It's 4:30 east coast time, and I'm in limbo between the two time zones. (I need to get to bed)

I used Zulu in the plane to avoid confusion.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

One more thing:

At FL210 (last leg) burning 14.1 & 14.2 @ -19C I was getting 218-221KTAS and 255 + GS.

(No 100KT Jet for me...)

Forrest, that sucks. Been there done that. Sorry if I missed it, but what rating were you going for?
