Quote: Adam choice in shops was his problem not the airframe or the make. That is absolutely the case. I've heard good things about EAM and they know TCs really well. I almost had them do the panel on my 425 but I went with a closer shop. Is that a 980? That is a really, really sweet airplane. All the good characteristics of a -10 690 without the ADs. Was that for sale by EAM 2-3 years ago? I was talking to them about a 690 and they told me about a project 980 that was coming up. I wonder if that's your plane.

Yes it is a 980 or in Commander language a 695. 300kts, 1500nm range and easy to learn and fly. Could very well be the same plane. I bought it in the spring of 2015. I had it ferried to Naples jet center for most of the work but had Byerly Aviation do the paint. Both of those shops are top notch Commander repair stations. EAM did my engines.

Yeah it sounds like it was maybe the same plane. That's really nice I bet you are really enjoying it.

His story is not unique, alas. 9 months? Hmm, maybe that's a fourth case... Mike C.

It was great to see the airplane opened up. I learned a lot by watching and talking with the techs. As much as I like my 980 I would not disregard a Commander 690 with -10s. They are great values. If you can live with a little less range it will do everything else.

Yeah a 690 with the spar mod is a really nice pane too and a lot less $$ to acquire. I loved my piston commander. But there is only one thing I don't like about commanders: the required hangar size. I had a 60x60 for my 500B in the SF Bay Area and it cost a small fortune every month. Part of the reason why I was able to upgrade to a turbine was the 425 saved me $12K per year on the hangar. If it weren't for that I would be flying a 690.
What kind of speed and FF do you see at FL270/280? I assume you don't have RVSM right? What is the pressurization diff?

My way to say thank you to Adam for documenting this journey so well.

The stress of riding in a single might finish me off before I arrive, though!

Glad you've kept a good sense of humor about it. Send us some good news once it comes home! Jake
