On the other hand the 42 is not a great trip plane.

That's interesting feedback Spencer. Could you elaborate on that? What specifically makes you say that? Room? Baggage space? UL? Speed? Range?

Seat comfort was #1 for me. They aren't adjustable and are hard. Range is amazing with the low fuel burn and aux tanks but I would never want to be in that plane for 7 hours or whatever the endurance was.

There is very little baggage space. I don't think a regular size carry on would fit in the nose, and behind the back seats I think there is room for 1, maybe 2.

I see UL as 1070 pounds advertised which is pretty decent, but I don't recall the one I flew having that much. It had TKS and aux tanks. We also had to fly with ballast in the back to keep it in CG.

I had a Da40, seats were rock hard. I bought an Oregon Aero seat cushion and it made huge difference.

I'm not familiar with the cert requirements of the DA40/DA42 but my guess is that they are high-G seats like the SR22 and opted to use the seat cushion for energy management, similar to the Cirrus. In the SR22, the seat pan has very little cushion and the remainder is a big honeycomb block for energy absorption. It made the Cirrus seats very firm but if you put an Oregon Aero cushion on top, it improved the comfort.

I didn't realize the DA42 seats weren't adjustable - that stinks. So, I assume the only adjustment is in the rudder pedals then?

Hopefully the DA62 becomes a legit cross country machine with reasonable space for bags, UL, performance and comfort. I for one would not be willing to drop $1M+ for one but perhaps some day they will be a consideration once they've depreciated to a more affordable level.

I believe it uses the Steyr 280 hp diesel engines in development

Yeah, I'm kidding. I know they don't exist except on paper. I was being facetious.

It shows 280HP 6 cylinder diesels. I think there's a market for a plane like this depending how fast it is. Doesn't have a chute but does have 2 engines (all psychological to the noobs) and runs on JetA. Cool plane.
