That agrees with what I was told at Simcom.

It comes from 61.64(b)(5) which says 2000 TT, 500 turbine, then no SOE per 61.64(f).

This also allows type rating entirely in sim, no in airplane requirement.

I'll do a mentor anyway, but that's not a legal requirement.

Another thing to keep in mind, if this is your first type rating in a turbo jet aircraft, and you take the check ride in a simulator, you will receive a restricted license that will prevent you from acting as PIC until you log 25 hours of supervised operational experience with a type rated pilot, at which time a DPE or FAA can reissue the certificate without the restriction.

If you have 500 hours of twin engine turbine PIC time (turboprop or turbojet) then the 25 hours of SOE is not required for a first type rating in a SIM.

Yes assuming logged at least 2000 hours of flight time.

And this is different from an MU2 how? The Citation climbs faster, but otherwise, the terminal area speeds are remarkably similar.

Beside the obvious performance difference, they are quite slippery when getting into the terminal area. it is not a problem when you get used to it and have good situational awareness and think ahead. Power setting gouge numbers are your friend.

Get caught 20-25 miles out at 10k for traffic below and doing 270-280kts., you have options, but it is soooo much easier to slow down a MU2 and start throwing out drag.

Sorry David, but you are wrong.

(a) Below is Article 3 of Mexico's Aviation Law which clearly states that foreign aircraft flying over Mexican territory will be subject to the rules and requirements of the country which issues the aircraft registration. I could bore you and go through all of the minutiae of the law, but as long as the LOA is current, you should not be violated.

(b) Mexico City???? Unless you were flying for a government dignitary, I doubt you have flown into Mexico City - it has been closed to private flights for the last 25 years. The only flights allowed are scheduled commercial, cargo, government, law enforcement and military.

(c) I know of at least two Citations flying on SPW LOA's based in Mexico. I also must fly 2 or 3 times per month into Veracruz and I doubt the Commandant there would write anybody up.

Do you know of anyone having been violated on a SPW in Mexico? I would be interested to know.

Just got my SPW. It's a process Commercial multi plus 2nd class med, then the 5 day initial. Check to make sure you are insurable. I was( 2000 hours turbine.).

I think the 25 hours before SPW standard is optimistic. I was comfortable with 250 (10x). And these hours were in one year all over North and Central America. Half at night in all types of weather.

Easy to fly but as Tom says slippery in the terminal area. If things go wrong it amps up the pressure for sure.

The good thing about the SPW is you can take your buddies along as SIC even if the have little or zero turbine experience. Just reading checklists, handling the radios, swinging the gear is a help. Plus you have someone to talk too.

I actually brought a young lady from a local flight school on a recent flight. 500 hours, commercial, multi (50 hours). Absolute thrill of her life. Like can't sleep the night before or night after kind of thrill. Career enhancing. Kind of cool to offer that experience to someone coming up. Plus you can train them to your specs vs putting up with engrained habits.

Used to do that all the time in the Twin Commander.

Power to idle, pop the speed brakes, slow to below 250 kts below 10K, and you can descend at 3000 fpm .... No sweat.

Within last 12 months I paid $11k for initial at SIMCOM Scottsdale and $7100 for initial SPW. I am doing CJ TR in June for $10k.

PM me if you want to know how.

They do have speed brakes.

He buys bulk fuel and stores it there. Not on a fuel card. Having said that, I would suggest you look into EVO Jet and AEG Fuels - I have found that on airports where CAA is not available (or if you can't justify the card cost of CAA), they offer the best deals.

Curious, is the single pilot type rating in the SP models about the same level of effort and work as the SPW in their respective models.

In other words, single pilot type in 501/SP at simcom as difficult as a 500 type with SPW sign off?
