Shame you're on the " other side of the hill", I'd suggest a partnership in one. Citabria entry fee doesn't look horrible either. Any grass fields between us ? Calhoun is 35 miles from Jasper. Which direction are you from KJZP ? Do you have extra hanger space ?

Tony, not sure about grass fields but I'm sure there's something. Question is, can we get access.
We are in the process of funding 18 new t-hangars at JZP and I have dibs on one of them so, hangar is covered. I live at Big Canoe, 20 min east of JZP so not sure I want to go much further west. Come on over to JZP and I'll buy you a cup of coffee and let's think this through. May or may not be something there. I have 1 or 2 others at JZP who want to go the Citabria route. Seven seven zero . Three one zero . Nine three two seven.

Piper warrior II:
Reliable, cheap, safe, durable, easy to fly, handles crosswinds well, really nice on cross country, quiet, burns 10 gph at 120 kts, or go slow and burn 5 to 6 gph and go 100kts. It will also carry people and bags. I doubt it is any more to operate than a champ or cub and the insurance is probably less.

Reminds me of what they used to say about "cab-over" trucks...If you have a wreck, you'll be the first one there.

I've had/owned/flown..
J-3; Citabria; Champ; J-5; PA-12; Super Cub; Husky; Ercoupe; L-2; L-3; L-4; L-5; 180/185; Bird Dog; ...
The J-3 is classic. The Champ is (IMO) a better all around plane, just not as widely recognized, and a bit heavier feeling.
I've come to appreciate the virtues of a "self-commencer" (starter).
an L-2 with an 85 hp would be perfect. Wish I hadn't sold mine (had a 65, not an 85).
Have a Husky now...
My advice is: find one that "speaks" to you...and that is in good condition. Even worse than a Bonanza, if it's not right, you'll pay dearly to get it right, and will never even come close to a break-even situation.
Find one in good shape. Have it looked at by appropriate mechanic (i.e., someone who knows tube and fabric). Don't be afraid of a well-kept wood wing model.
Find one in good shape. There's a lot of ones out there that are "pigs with lipstick", and a few that look a bit tired that are in excellent mechanical shape.
Did I mention to find one in good shape?
You'll have more fun than you can imagine...

Stan, some of us are not Airplane Whisperers. Geez, I have a hard time getting them to do what I want them to do, let alone talk back to me!!!!

True.. I think he means you finally "break" when your balance is "even" with zero!
