You should have shown up with your grandpas plane (dont remember the type, something from the 20s). How muc money can you recoup from selling the Honeywell boxes ? I imagine there is a strong market for used avionics. Congratulations ! So what is going to happen to that blinged out 340 ?

Quote: The 340 was sold in January. I told someone I was thinking of selling it and upgrading to something faster and a week later it was sold - very little negotiation, never hit the market. Lol, yeah nobody buys those old twins, except when they do

I have a new case of jet fever as a friend of mine just purchased a 1994 CJ. I will be following your updates closely as your plane is nearly identical to his CJ. Thanks Reg. What SN did your friend buy? They have started pulling stuff out and the G1000 upgrade is now underway. With this, I have had to make some decisions on eliminating some stuff, and adding other stuff. 1. ADF's - the plane has two - I say I don't need them. It's hard to find NDB approaches these days, and will I really be shooting NDB approaches into the future anyway? One more thing to break, there are two big antennas on the roof top (drag), and the whole thing probably weighs a good 20 pounds between equipment, wiring and accessories. 2. KHF950 (HF radio) - this plane was first delivered in Germany which apparently uses HF radio. I am not very familiar with this and have been trying to learn more about it, but the equipment is no longer made, support is few and far between, and the whole setup looks like it is a big boat anchor. So - I've decided it is all coming out. 3. Traffic System - Unbelievably, the airplane does not have a traffic system, so I am having a GTS-820 installed. 4. Stormscope - The airplane also does not have stormscope, which if I constrained my travel to the US, would be fine, but not while traveling internationally. 5. GSR-56 Iridium data link - I wanted to add an Iridium data link via Garmin's GSR-56 to download weather data when outside of XM coverage areas, but unfortunately, I have found out that the current G1000 software v13 does not support it. Maybe, SW v14 will support WX data from Connext, but nobody can tell me. I am therefore torn between making preparations for this, or just going with something like an Iridium Go. I will need to decide over the next couple of days - the interior is out, and now is the time to do it before the new interior and paint. In the meantime, cables, boxes and racks are coming out as we speak...!

Bermuda for example.
Forrest Thanks for the input Forrest - that's what I'm told, but I also found out that I can rent the equipment if I ever needed to. Since I don't foresee flying to areas which require it often (or possibly ever), I prefer the reduced weight and complexity than being prepared for maybe someday needing obsolete equipment.

Not sure the rental equipment works on a jet. They usually hang an antenna out the storm window. In a jet you would have to install a fixed antenna at a minimum.
