Good point. I remember being told by someone (think it was Rick Wheldon) that the TPE-331-10 noise comes from the prop. That when they run the engine without the prop attached (maintenance runs at Honeywell), it is much quieter -- similar to a jet (which obviously it is)...but the Prop is what makes that loud noise on the ground.

I had not considered the issue of the resonance between the wing and the ground, but that is also likely a factor...

It doesn't matter if it's a merlin, turbo commander or mu-2, it's flat out loud. Tail pipes may make a difference, but that compressor out front is a noise maker for sure. Surprisingly quiet inside, especially the merlin.

Exactly. All of the ag planes have very long exhaust and the engine is way out in front of the wings and the engines absolutely scream. It's true on everything from the pre-century up to the 14.

If you are interested in how a 1031 exchange could benefit you when replacing your MU2, let me know and I will setup a Free call with our Aviation attorney to discuss.

Damn straight! It helps keep the Mosquitos down and sterilizes rodents within 3000'.

I've been pax in a fairly recent Piaggio, no worse than a new King Air, much better than my one experience in an old short-bodied MU2. Having listened to the same airplane fly over before boarding, it was remarkably quiet by comparison. Makes you feel kind of dirty to know what a signature you're leaving.

It’s like my Starship days, you could hear it before you could see it, but the Starship was one of the best aircraft that I have ever flown.

The Piaggio is pretty much my dream plane. I wish by the time I can afford to, they've dropped down below the million(s) they cost now.

CJ's AFM Limitation section says "Takeoffs and landings are limited to paved runway surfaces."

Cessna used to offer a gravel runway option on the CJ. It ducted bleed air to the nose wheel to spin it up before landing to not spew gravel into the engines.

Another 10,000' of altitude, 100 kts, and jet smoothness will change your life as much as you think 300 kts did.

Ever any regrets Allen? Do you ever 2nd guess yourself and wonder if that $$ is ever better used elsewhere?

Don't get me wrong. I lust for jets but wonder if I'll ever ask myself that question if/when I get there.

Nope. Told my kids I am frittering away their inheritance. They are on their own.

I would not want my epitaph to be "He had money in the bank and didn't spend it wisely."

There are lots of other ways we economize. We have one house and my newest car is a 2006 model. Everyone has their priorities.

When I am at FL450 traveling 400kts over TRW I am smiling and have no regrets. And I know I can lose one engine and land safely. There is no window during the flight where a satisfactory outcome is in doubt unless I the pilot screw up. It is unlikely to be due to my aircraft.

How short a field can you operate from? At sea level.

Yeah, damn right it does. You know when I'm coming, you never need to wonder if my blades are spinning; considering you can walk into the blades from fore or aft on a bird with motors mounted on a high wing, I'm glad people can hear the motors. Anyhow, loud is cool right up until it gets you kicked out. I don't think we're going to get banned after all these years.

Also, I'm not what you'd call a super upper-crust country club kind of guy. Every time I roll up in my traveling Metalica concert people coming out of business jets look at me like I'm Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack, lol. That's fine, that's pretty much my personality. Think the MU2 is loud? You oughta hear the (lack of) pipe on my chopper.
