I have a hard time believing that putting a metallic paint over a metallic surface causes anything but more shininess. Sounds like avionics companies got to a point where they couldn't pinpoint the issue so they blamed it on someone else. Long history in aviation of mechanics and avionics guys embracing the blame game.

Honestly I can't think of a sillier mod either. I hardly ever touch the throttle as it is. Push it forward to go up. Pull it back to go down. My hand is on the throttle maybe 2 minutes in an entire flight.
