Jim Bede was at least using known physics, whereas the Raptor appears to have been designed in dreamland.
Peter had modelled the Raptor in the CFD module of Solidworks, but running a few basic calcs indicated it was well disconnected from reality.
I suspect he had a poor grasp of the need for accuracy of the input parameters, such as fluid properties, across the entire operating range. The lift/drag polar of the airfoil section in CFD was likely based on the flow being laminar for a long way from the leading edge. The actual transition to turbulent would have been further forward.
I often run into that issue my young engineers who blindly use engineering software. They usually fail to understand that the softare defaults need to be understood, rather than ignoring and hoping for the best.
I hope Phil C. has some views he could share on this.
Simon, are you back down under? But yes....I am working with a bit of this now in a RV10 upgrade world. Even old heads get sucked in by the "this is CFD, it should be right......

Not yet. We are currently packing, and will be flying home starting on December 17. The last 10 years has gone so quickly. The young kids I brought over are going back as young men. The youngest has spent most of his life here, and has a full Canadian accent. Great idea
For those of us who have been missing Peter, he has a replacement... They must have attended both the same engineering school, and took the same marketing class. The similarities are uncanny. If you're drinking anything while watching this is could come out of your nose...

He joined my Evolution FB group to make this pitch a while ago, which got him banned.
From the pictures, it looks like the (presumably unpressurized) tailcone is carbon, while the (claimed 6.7 psi pressurized) cabin looks to be just fiberglass, and not very thick at that. A bold move, we'll see how that works for them.

Having participated in the construction of a TIO 550 powered Lancair IVP, Dick Rutan's Voyager, and building 3 composite plansbuilt planes by myself, i suggest the odds of the Veloce 600 prototype flying in February 2025 is significantly less then zero, regardless of how many experienced builders they have on staff. Their composite shop, Volato Aeronaaves in Brazil, does know how to build molds, bag parts and bond structures...but that ain't the hard part.
I won't comment on the design, engineering, systems integration, costs or performance.
I came this close > < to putting money on a BD-12/14. Then the prototype failed on its first test flight and it was never heard from again.
I thought, ”That’s it? One bad flight and you say ‘Forget it?’ You just throw the parts back in the box and put the box in the Recycle?” Little Thirtysomething Stuey learned about business that week, without actually putting his own money on the line. The glory days of rec.aviation.homebuilt.
