Did the 3-way test on a perfect day. Not a cloud in the sky or a bump in the air.

I used Arlen's handy little calculator (thank you Arlen) and came up with a LOP speed of 202 knots; however, I was LOP enough that the engine was stumbling. The true airspeeds displayed by the G3X for these three legs were 200/198/198 for an average of roughly 199 - so there is a three knot discrepancy between the G3X and the GPS three way calculation which I believe is not too bad.

Next, I enriched to roughly 75 ROP and calculated 213 knots true. The true speeds displayed by the G3X were 208/208/209 - so roughly a 4-5 knot discrepancy.

I then decided to try 2300 RPM (I have never had the prop less than 2500) and was amazed of a few things:

1. The shake all but went away. Only a slight "buzz" in the control stick that most people would not feel.

2. TAS only dropped 3-4 knots

3. Fuel burn dropped 1.5 GPH, so I lost 2% airspeed for a 10% reduction in fuel flow. I will take those numbers.

After the flight I had the engine compressions taken and they were very good with the lowest being 74 and the highest 76. The plugs were clean and the engine monitor data looks great.

I'm thinking that I will have the prop dynamically balanced and consider some GAMI injectors as well and then re-evaluate the vibration.

Is there a way to trim out the error in the Garmin's TAS feature?

Sounds like you are on the right track. Did you get a chance to determine the GAMI spread?

what is your engine setup? i'm seeing the same speeds with my gear down @ 10k feet and I believe you should be much slicker than me

NA stock 300HP Lycoming with Plasma ignition. I was at 12.5k and can only make 63% power there. I also have the longer wingtips that make it a little slower. The Glasair wing is not real efficient. It is built more for strength than speed. With that said, the Lancair Legacys flying with 400HP IO-580s are only getting 240 knots on 19 GPH. I'm getting 212 knots on 13.5 GPH. I don't think they are any faster when they bring the fuel flow back to where I am.

I'm plugging that into the software right now. Will post the results.

Have not tested it there.

Ok, my GAMI spread is way out of line. I am .9 between the first and last. BTW, if you guys are not using this FREE Savvyanalysis software you are missing out. It is amazing what it tracks. Not only fuel flow, CHT, EGT, but voltage, oil pressure, oil temp, OAT, your flight tracks and much more.

yeah, that will do it- get that fixed and see if you still have the issue, maybe also consider verifying the balance of the prop if not altering it, always good to know your IPS

Great Plane Todd!

It has very interesting and informative as you chronicle your experience.

Looks like a lot of fun and a great diversion from other stresses in life.

Have a look at cirrusreports.com as well. It's not cirrus specific and I like the format better. It might not track all the same things. I upload to both but mainly use cirrusreports.

+1 SavvyAnalysis... best part is I no longer need a PC to see the data, browser based so good for enlightened pilots (Mac users). :hide:

I love this plane. About -70 DLOP watching the traffic go by. And then a modest -3k FPM decent getting ready for the GPS approach and still 25 knots before I hit the yellow arc.

Extending and retracting the landing gear after replacing all hydraulic hoses including the brakes. They were all 13 years old, so I thought it was time to replace them.
