I asked the controller why they didn't use HOGUP, and he said he didn't know. He just reads what's printed on the clearance. One of these days I'll figure it out. Its the same type of thing departing out of KBFI to points directly south. They give distance based waypoints on the J70 radial (230) which sometimes coincide exactly with waypoints on the chart. Never understood why.

Vector to join a radial to a distance fix then fly another radial to a VOR then as filed. WTF? At then home base of the FAA and you are going to pill that BS? When you factor in the time to read/copy/correct/misfly etc it is just a horrible process. BWTHDIK?

Just a WAG, could it be that HOGUP is too low for the altitudes you are cleared for initially? That sounds like a non-RNAV departure, and I don't know if you can "legally" use HOGUP above 18k?

The CJ2 I fly has the Jettech STC and does have a fuel computer that works through the GTN 750’s. It works and I use it but if I were having to pay for it I’d probably pass on that option. I find the fuel gauges are so accurate that it becomes a simple math problem to do any fuel calculations, makes it hardly seem worth the extra $$ to have the computer.
Thanks Chad. Seems like it would make it easier determining Vref. So what’s your full fuel payload? Did you keep the Universal?

We are, and have been for the last year, caring for my very ailing mother in law and her 92 year old sister. My life isn't my own anymore. I don't regret for a second, but it does keep me from things like this.
Thank you for extending the invitation to all of us. I sure enjoy reading your posts, watching the videos and doing a bit of vicarious living through you.

Actually, airliners were reporting as much as +/- 20kts mountain wave in the 30s. We saw almost 4000FPM climb in the high 30's (usually 800FPM) on the way back.

Our II has the gross weight increase so full fuel of 5008 lbs, we can load 1475 in payload and our SII we carry 5800 lbs fuel and payload of 1100 lbs.
The II with the gross weight mod and the S2 carry more than a ton more weight into the air than the CJ2
