Crawled all over Steve's gorgeous 980 the other week. He's spared no cost on this one. Not the best pictures...

Here's some air-to-air of a Russian based 681 (that used to live in Germany). Russia has a rule that says that any plane that's older than 50 years can be run as an experimental. A very sensible rule, if you ask me. So that's why many of the older airplanes get a second lease of life over there eventually when the owner can do their own maintenance. My old 520 sold to Russia as well.
The shorter wingspan and smaller props of the 680V/681 models is evident in these (slightly bumpy) shots. Somehow it makes the 681 look more aggressive and bulldog-like in the air than the longer wing 690, in my opinion.

Acceleration and climb both notably better, deceleration a little less effective over Dowtys. Cockpit is now so headsets can be removed if you want. Cabin very quiet.
Now cruise, at my normal altitudes, I'm seeing 7-9 kts better TASs consistently. Only have 26 hrs on the props, but I would not trade back. $118k installed, including shipping both ways.
Oh yeah, OH on the Dowty is approx $65k each, quoted 6 months lead time.

Yeah, I heard Dowty are not fun to deal with.
Is that plane a 400LS? If so, could you tell us a little bit about your experience with it and costs? On paper, they're absolute rockets. Many jest would struggle to keep up with a 400LS.

I was purusing controller and looking at the current market on commanders. It would appear the prices have jumped up a huge amount over the last 18 months or so. I'd say close to 50%. Anyone that bought a commander in the last 2-3 years has probably made a bunch of money. Fuel prices the cause or something else? I seem to remember $350k gets you a decent 690 and 450k got you a really, really nice one. Looks like now those numbers are 500k and 750k.
