The V is quite a bit sportier and the insurance is likely going to make you cart around a second officer for a while. A 560 requires a crew of 3?

I don’t believe SPE is available for the 560XL (could be wrong).
Early in process. Full quote/qual not complete so I don’t have other stips at this point.

560XL is two pilot only. No SPE exists.

Another data point:
S550 + FJ44, hull $1.6M, liability $5M.
Hull premium: $6,400 (0.40% hull rate) Liability premium: $4,750 Deductible: NIL motion, NIL not in motion
Pilot qualifications:
Mike Ciholas -- Must obtain his COM then get his CE500 type rating from a simulator based program with SPE Initial from an approved simulator based program followed by an additional 25 hours of mentor time with an approved mentor pilot. Annual G&F training at an approved facility thereafter.
Open pilot warranty:
CMI or better/ Typed/3,000TT/ 2,000ME/ 1,000Jet/100MM + All pilots must successfully complete an underwriter approved G&F training program for the insured MM within the 12 months preceding any intended flight.
Underwriter: Brown
For comparison, my MU2 policy is $4,950 for a $450K hull (1.1% hull rate), $4,000 for $5M liability. I expect when I get some time in the jet, it will be cheaper to insure than the MU2 despite much higher hull value.
Note that I have 0 jet time, about 1300 hours MU2 time, no type rating, so I'm a jet rookie, but moderate turbine experience.
Despite my rookie status, 5 underwriters quoted, prices ranged from $11,150 to $14,950.
The overall impression is that insurance in the Citation market is widely available and reasonable cost.
Mike C.

Is the 560XL the same type rating as a 500; seems a bit odd if so.

It is not the X fuselage. Much smaller than the X, but the same cross section though.

Mike C. It is if you are talking about $1m-$2m aircraft - however if you are an owner/operator looking at a $4m+ aircraft then the market becomes very tight especially for jet transition type risks. It gets even tighter when the subject aircraft is in the P300, CJ3/4 or PC24 space at $8m+. Capacity is still there but we are down a couple of underwriting markets from a year or two ago.

Overspeed n2. Looks like an indication error.
