So at this rate it’ll take 3+ engines to make it to his 40 hour goal? I don’t mean to sound mean, but 3 engine failures may be pushing even Peter’s luck!

The fact the engine broke might be good luck.

Peter will be alive at least a little bit longer now. Maye this will be stimulus to give up.

And he almost had it going 300 knots for 3600 nm. Almost.

Is that related to the oil leak and subsequent loss of power? I think he's saying it's unrelated, if I understood correctly.

Considering it's not a field assembled engine, I'm shocked by that failure.

He didn't mention any plans to do a postmortem disassembly of the failed engine but i think he'd have to be insane to skip that. Once apart it should be pretty obvious whether or not the con-rod failure was due to lack of oil and if not I'd bet it's a result of his homebrew ECU setup unless it was caused by pre-existing damage from when it was in a motor vehicle.

No worries, he has one sourced and on its way. The swap will take a couple of weeks and then he can get on with getting the forty hours he needs, and then it's on to production. No time to mess with why the rod broke, it's just one of those things, no?

The plan at this point is obvious: He's going to take what he has and make a kit from it. Whatever the performance is, it is. Whatever he can reduce the weight to, that's what it will be. Lofty dreams are in the bin, he's going to take this plane to market in whatever form it ends up.

I suspect the guy is learning and the second plane will solve most problems and create some new ones.
The current aircraft is not marketable even as a kit.

You are making assumptions not in evidence. I alluded to the second plane.
But there are many issues he can address during engine swap.

He has gone further than the vast majority of you naysayers have stated.
I suspect several of the cynics could not design a kite.
