You don't have a Battery Disconnect Switch in the cockpit in the 500/550?

They just teach you that part about exiting the running airplane to see if you are conscious in class.

Quick—what power settings must be used with a complete electrical failure? :D

I hate oral questions like that. My answer..."some". Equivalent C90 question...how many feet of chain in the landing gear. Arrgghh

WTF can a pilot see or do about it anyway?

Other answer is PFM... ;)

Remember which motive fuel valves open during electrical failure. Always thought how popular that fact would be at cocktail parties.

This would be where my smart-arse side would get me in a bind with the examiner:

I didn't know chain had feet, I thought they had links....... :duck:

Yes and max anti-ice setting since anti-ice solenoids fail open.

Ooohhh...thats tough. The real answer is not enough which is why we always need Prist.

One of the starter lights will be illuminated after the engine is running AND the starter disengage button doesn’t extinguish it. Do not shut the engine off. It will shear the starter shaft. Have the aircraft chalked. Parking brake set and then open the door and disconnect the battery in the tailcone. In the Encore that added a switch that allows the pilot so disconnect the battery from the cockpit.[/quote]

I have never heard that it will "shear the starter shaft". What it will do is start motoring the engine. If then someone disconnects the battery the bright electrical arc will scare the shi# out of them!

I had a DPE ask me to recite the procedure for a ground power start on my Bonanza during the Commercial ASEL oral.

I said I would pull out the POH and follow the procedure, and couldn’t fathom a scenario where it knowing the procedure by rote would be required. He didn’t have a good comeback. Lot of random knowledge in this business.

As a side note, I too love these threads about flying jets.

Open invitation to beers on me if you fellas are in NYC.

Ken

Forgot to mention that Caitlin Jenner was at Simcom last week. P-Baron. Go figure.
