I am seriously considering selling my Piaggio. SN1013, it has all Garmin even the EIS, new windshields, just did the horizontal AD, new paint, freshened up the interior. It is in excellent shape engines on ESP Gold. Let me know if anyone is interested. I'm willing to let it go under 2m.

What’s fuel capacity on it?

My concern is I know from my own experience that a smooth grass runway landing at 40mph may not be a smooth runway landing at 60 knots.

All depends on how it is taken care of.

My brother's private turf field gets rolled with a 40,000 lbs Sakai asphalt roller and is glass smooth, smoother than many paved fields.

Meanwhile, I've seen some pretty rough "paved" fields out there. Some of them are so bad, that they need to be mowed at times from the grass growing in the cracks.

The main issue with turf is how hard is it. Your tire pressures give you a general idea of what the turf has to hold up. 120 PSI (mains on a P.180?) is pretty high contact pressure.

The Avanti -- well, mine anyway -- has a lower max take off (11,500 lbs) and landing (10,345 lbs) weight for unimproved fields. So it's contemplated. But I don't think a plane with its approach and take off speeds is particularly well suited to unimproved runways.

Out of curiosity, why are you selling it? Do you find the Epic does your mission well enough?

Thanks!

My Epic does get flown more for sure and I also have an opportunity on a jet deal but would need to sell it in order to take advantage of the deal.

Daryl,
You’re in my’ hood so feel free to visit 46U and I’ll give you the nickel tour. Normally have two Beech Starships in the hangar across the runway from me. We drove through Pocatello a few weeks back and my wife scored a $20 box of potatoes from honor system farm stand. She is happy with the variety and freshness.
Best,
Tom

Wow you're in Alpine! I have flown in there with my cub before. Let me know when you'll be there and I'll try and stop in to say Hi. I did see one of the starships last time I was there. Wild looking machine, too bad it fell short of the Piaggio because it would be nice to have something else that was as fast and economical as it.

Daryl,
I’ll be in Alpine thru end October. Used to be at KCMA where, once upon a time, there were lots of Piaggios. Great plane! Stop by any time…
Best,
Tom

Good Morning!

We have just signed an acquisition agreement for a Garmin Equipped (1036 or newer) Avanti, or Avanti II for a domestic client. If anyone is considering selling, please let me know.

Thanks!

I'd like to ask about your experience with oil leaks from the engines.

I did a long flight the other day, 5:35, LRC, F410. After landing I found a spot of oil under one engine. Called service and took the cowlings off to see what's leaking. The most wet part was IMO the governor on the side but service says it's more likely the prop shaft seal and the cause was long time in the cold at F410. I also did a ground run for 30 min and a few new drops appeared under the engine.

I sent some pics and they say to bring it over to them. It's a 1:30 flight. Would you fly?

I gather the prop shaft seal is the most probable leak on any PT6. The tach, governor, and auto feather unit are other places I've heard of leaks; these usually just require gaskets, though some can be expensive.

How much oil did you lose... how asymmetric are your present oil levels?

Generally I try never to fly with an oil leak, especially a rapidly developing one. That leak looks pretty substantial. But if you lost only a little oil, and then top them off, I imagine you'll make your flight if need be. But impossible to say.
