Gerry,
Save your $1m and buy this TBM.

Fly it part 91 and dont worry about it. You still got over 2000 hours of flying on that engine.
When you want to sell it will still be worth good $$.

Man, you seem really determined to keep me from doing this, lol.

There are a few problems with experimentals. For one they are more expensive to insure. Compare say a Lancair IVP piston and a P210. Much more. The other thing is many pilots simply will not buy an experimental. I don't care how many build pictures or what high end shop built it, they simply do not have a set of standards for producing an airplane. Anyone who has built and airplane knows those build books are more like guidelines in many areas. For some that freedom to do that is the lure. But that market is very small for someone looking for a seven digit airplane, not large enough to constitute the R&D to bring an airplane to market. The last thing is they simply don't hold value. In a start up experimental, you are one fatal accident away from your airplane taking a serious cut in value. Express made a good aircraft but had a fatal accident and never really took off. Same with Ravens.

That statement is somewhat true but deceiving also. Most kit planes don't, however, the ones like the Evo and the one we would build, we would build to FAR part 23, just like every manufacturer out there.

Resale value of a home built is mostly based on perception. It is my opinion that the home built market is going to explode over the next few years. It is already growing exponentially faster than the certified market. People that have negative connotations about a home built hasn't really dug in and done some research, and then gone out and flew a really well built one. I flew the Evo and I would have traded my Bonanza in a heartbeat... but it only has 4 seats.

People keep telling me that there is no market for experimental etc., but do you have data backing that up? Show me facts and not just your and your buddies opinions. When that Evo landed at my FBO it was surrounded by 30 people within 10 minutes. People like it, and the experimental high quality market IMO is catching on.

Found out today that even a kit airplane has to go through FAA structure testing to pass and be sold on the market. I wasn't aware of this.

Sounds like another Check on the positive side.

I truly am amazed by the number of people who think that a "certified" airplane is so much better. There are some homebuilts I wouldn't step foot into just because I know the owner, but others that I wouldn't have any issue with.

Discretion is the better part of valor. There are certain "certified" airplanes I wouldn't step foot in just because I know the owner. . . . . .

Best of luck to you Gerry. I've been dreaming for the past 6 months about designs for something similar. Hopefully with some new innovation, we can drive down the prices and make GA affordable and attainable for the general populace.

BINGO! We have a winner :woot:

Well, not if you try to certify. Everyone seems to go bankrupt.

Here is a slight update as to what the airplane specifications would be.

Highlights of what we would be developing:

-6 passenger composite airframe, pressurized 6.5 psi, slightly larger inside than a PA46
-1000 lb useful full of fuel
-Airstair for easy entry and exit (no squeezing in a small pilot door)
-FAR 23 flight characteristics
-PT6 powered airframe with a multitude of engine options from small to medium form engines
-Cruise speeds of 285-325 ktas (based on choice of engine)
-roughly 7.7 nm/gal with a 1300-1600 nm range
-fits inside most T-hangars (~31 ft long and ~35 ft wing span, roughly)
-Kit to be able to be built for around $1m including build assist (could be built for under $1m depending on choice of engine)
-Allow customer choice and personalization by allowing freedom to chose engine/avionics etc of their choosing, whether you buy from us or not (like a homebuilt is supposed to be)

The plan is to move forward but we are looking for investors of either wanting some ownership of the company or pre-purchase kits at a reduced cost.

Gerry,

I would need more specs. :D
In addition, a proposed budget would help.
Lastly, you will need to reveal some of the secret sauce that is going to make it so you can beat the Lancair Evolution on price and performance.

Easy... first of all, Lancair cut a lot of corners that hurt their airframes efficiency. We would not make the same mistake. Also, Lancair chose a small form engine with 750hp. We would use a medium form 850hp engine that actually gets better SPC than the small form engine, thus allowing better speeds and lower fuel burn. Lastly, Lancair is making a TON of money on their kits. We would just be a lot less greedy.
