I am a little too chicken to put a DeltaHawk on a singe engine airframe, but for a twin that would be a cat's meow. That would be amazingly efficient. Deltahawk has been flying a single engine velocity for a number of years and they told me they have to throttle way back to keep under Vne.

Does anyone know the status of those Deltahawk engines? Are they ever going to get certified? I understand the engine are being used in UAV's routinely and the company does not appear to have any sense of urgency to get their engine approved. I am not sure I would stake my life on the engine at this stage but it is certainly an intriguing option when available.

That's the whole point - singe-engine Deltahawk is a bit scary. Twin, that's a different story. Particularly, a twin which does not do Vmc roll and can climb on one engine at full gross.

I don't think people built kitplanes because it makes rational sense. They do it because they want to build their own plane, and many want the ability to customize it however they choose. Or because they think a plane is cool in a way you can't get for a similar price.
Kitplanes take years to finish take up all your free time, and require a big chunk of cash tied up in parts and tools that you can't fly. If you look at building a plane as work, it probably isn't for you. If you thinking building a plane is one of the coolest things in the whole wide world, then the financial investment makes sense. It's an expensive hobby, but it's not close to the most expensive one out there.
If you just compare raw cruise performance numbers, it sure does make a Bonanza look good. But how much does a new Bonanza cost? It's close to 4x the cost of a new V Twin.

Don't build/buy one if you even think you might want to fly off an unprepared strip some day. Pusher props are highly susceptible to damage from rocks, turtles, jackrabbits and other assorted things that get kicked up by the tires.
