Believe it or not, I checked people out and rented the planes for solo... to the ones I checked out. Insurance wasn't that bad then.
Got over 1200 hours rental in one. Winter season were very slow but summers made up for it!
Best fun I ever had as an Instructor.
Fresh private pilots smiled at me when when I told them it would take 3-5 hours for a checkout. Most fess'ed up my BS turned out to be true!
Cubs are easy to fly, but not so easy to fly well.
Learn to balance the plane on one main wheel during landing, and you will be able to handle any wind the plane can. And even more...
You will be surprised howthe skills transfer to all other planes you fly. I laughed when a friend asked me if I be willing to give one of his corporate Citation pilots some training in the Company's J3! Can't wait to fly the hell out of it for this very reason!
