It all goes back to training and proficiency. It’s been talked about here with our Bo’s. How many guys still come over the fence at 80-90 with the excuse that they have a long runway? A lot of pilots are afraid to fly “slow”.
.

Chris..... well said.... flying too fast on approach is just plain sloppy technique..... and can become very dangerous is short field/obstacle situations. Like my bo instructor said: "learn the CORRECT speeds, not what all the other pilots tell you the correct speeds are.... even if they are long time bonanza pilots....... most of them fly once a month out of 4000 foot runways".

Harsh, but observed many many times at my own field.

Oddly, when I was looking for a plane last year I spoke to a Cirrus owner who basically talked me out of even looking at his airplane because of my low number of hours. His recommendation? A Bonanza.

I hope you've called and thanked him!
