They are moving the 350/400 production to Mexico. Who knows, maybe they manage to apply the same concept to their SE turboprop from the get-go and translate that into a more competitive price. This will be interesting to watch.

I'm still scratching my head on how they're going to be able to bolt a turboprop onto a mustang airframe without the prop striking the ground (or at least having very minimal prop ground clearance). The mustang sits really low to the ground.

For what it's worth, there's an article on the Robinson R66 in this month's Flying that shows a really nice pic of the RR300 mounted in the back. 200 lbs and pretty tiny as far as turbines go. Interesting that it only has a centrifugal compressor. They apparently removed the axial flow compressor section to shave cost and complexity.

Throw one of those on a Bonanza (or a Cessna for that matter) and we'd be cooking with gas, er. Jet-A.

IIRC, the Mustang wasn't a true clean sheet design. I believe Pelton mentioned it was derived from a 1990s twin TP design.

Just jack up the gears a few inches. Piece o' cake. :thumbup:

I did read that article. But that Turbine Robinson isn't exactly cheap.

Sierra Industries, which re-engines early Citations with Williams FJ44s, is an absolute killer value in the price range ballpark under discussion.

How much?

I take back what I said about the R66 Helicopter. I jus re-read the article and that RR300 is bad ass and not that expensive.
