Total guess, but kind of looks like emergency kill - similar to a lanyard you find on a motor boat. Maybe it pops the parachute?

JOOC, what would be your plan when the weather turns bad about quitting time? Avoiding rush hour traffic would sure be nice though (if I was still working).
I've got several work vehicles I can always drive home if I wanted to. Same thing happens if I take a motorcycle to work

The red cord is never pulled or moved, so it seems to be some contingency which you might quickly need to activate given the pilot always has it in hand, but what would that be given a parachute can't work? Maybe it engages a stabilization augmentation mode. I would assume that it could have that and an obstacle avoidance mode like most cheap drones have.

Classic rotorcraft mindset. As to the lanyard, most drones have a RTB function that takes it home and lands it. There’s no way this thing survives a major malfunction, but maybe an operator issue?
