What is the control in the left hand, the red string loop?

This ~8 minute flight used up 2/3rds of the pack (judging from the scale on the display, if it is linear with state of charge), so with any kind of good reserves, this is a 10 minute machine to be safe.

60 Kg of batteries suggests a KWH pack of about 18 KWH. If they used 12 KWH in the 8 minute video, average power is about 80-90 KW, over 100 HP.

They say max pilot weight is 210 lbs, but I bet all the demos are done with much lighter folks to extend battery life.

Total guess, but kind of looks like emergency kill - similar to a lanyard you find on a motor boat. Maybe it pops the parachute?

Tough crowd.

Looks like a bundle of fun to me

I'd love one to make my commute back and forth to work. I've got space to takeoff and land on both ends.

JOOC, what would be your plan when the weather turns bad about quitting time? Avoiding rush hour traffic would sure be nice though (if I was still working).

I've got several work vehicles I can always drive home if I wanted to. Same thing happens if I take a motorcycle to work

In the video, they never fly more than 20 ft over anything. Parachute doesn't work that low. It is as if they are afraid of altitude.

The red cord is never pulled or moved, so it seems to be some contingency which you might quickly need to activate given the pilot always has it in hand, but what would that be given a parachute can't work?

Maybe it engages a stabilization augmentation mode. I would assume that it could have that and an obstacle avoidance mode like most cheap drones have.

Followed by "emergency fall" since there would be no lift?

I would NOT hold the "fall like a brick" switch while in the air.

The thing wouldn't fly at all without stability augmentation. A suite of sensors and a computer are necessary elements, just like flying a smaller drone.

Maybe it's like an inflatable life jacket airbag that's what the thing really needs, yank the cord and youre instantly surrounded in airbags. :D

Switching what, exactly?

Classic rotorcraft mindset.

As to the lanyard, most drones have a RTB function that takes it home and lands it. There’s no way this thing survives a major malfunction, but maybe an operator issue?

From what I can find online it is a BRS type parachute.
