I for one think this is a service that could definitely have value. Lots of buyers fall in love with a plane or the idea of the plane before they even see it. When stuff starts popping up it's way too easy to shrug it off little by little until there's a lot wrong but you're somehow still ok with it. Having the option to have an impartial party take a look at everything and make a recommendation just may snap someone out of it before they make a mistake. I've bought and sold a whole bunch of things and I've been on both sides of that. I've rationalized a purchase that I later regretted, and I've watched buyers do the same. There's a whole lot of variability here though in the buyers and the plane so I imagine it will be a tough thing to do unless you're only looking at very high dollar airplanes. If you ever want a consultant for lower value planes than your normal you know where to find me

I truly wish that the details were not confidential, because this is a story I would love to share! Congrats on the first success. Although the details are confidential, you should be able to discuss the process - right?
I’m traveling currently, but I will do just that when I get back to a computer.

Here's the highlights:
Purpose: Evaluate the deal that a prospective purchaser is looking at making, we are considering the value of the aircraft and what we can determine (remotely) about the aircraft itself in regards to value impacting events such as damage or foreign history.
Determine Aircraft Value:
Three sold comps. (if available) Three VREF evaluations, two comps and the subject. Real market / value input from industry professionals.
And if the deal isn't already in place:
Provide buyer with needed forms such as LOI (letter of intent) Consult with buyer in regards to a negotiation strategy.
Determine Aircraft Suitability:
Research online history, looking for damage / stories. Research ownership history. Review aircraft's FAA 337 file. (repairs / damage) Research owner broker / maintenance history.
Assessment of the deal:
Review terms of deal including prebuy.
Review purchase agreement / deposit requirements.
Conclusion:
Provide the buyer with a professional opinion about how good the deal is or isn't.
Deal or no deal... do it or DON'T DO IT!
So far we are only doing turbines, but would like to expand to pistons as well.
This is a high level overview, be glad to answer any questions anyone has.

Username Protected wrote: Why 3 comps but only VREF on two of them? Triangulation, we need two book values based on close comps to triangulate the book value of the subject aircraft. Our goal is to get three comps so that we have a good baseline, but we only use the two that are closest to the subject. The book, VREF or Blue Book, whatever you use doesn't always do a good job of telling you what an airplane is worth, but they do a decent job of telling you what similar airplanes are worth in relation to each other. Example: Comp A - $2,225,682.00 book value - sold for $1,950,000.00 - difference $275,682.00 Comp B - $2,480,232.00 book value - sold for $2,225,000.00 - difference $255,232.00 Subject - $2,325,876.00 book value - should sell for $2,050,000.00 - $2,075,000.00
