There is a spar strap that is required to be added at 9000 hours for the first 200 serial numbers, and 15,000 hours for the rest. This is a BIG job, but 15,000 hours is a long time. TAS says they will only agree to do one or two of these a year, since it is so tedious. I bet Cape Air has done more of these than anyone else. There was a more recent AD for an inspection of the carry-through spar, but my impression is that is not a big deal. https://twincessna.org/414-prospective-owners/Edit: 9000 hours would be the first 200 414; 414As would all be 15,000 hours.

Linked article says typically 5 people with bags and full fuel.
The 414A I got to fly at Cessna wouldn't. It was typically equipped with known icing, radar, AC, and was more like 3 people with full fuel.

People come in all sizes and packing baggage can mean something different to everyone. So one persons 5-people and bags could be same weight as 3-people with their bags.

Love the 421C. The trailing link gear is highly sought after. Simple answer to me was the geared engines.

Junk planes with bad maintenance and uneducated pilots created this OWT. I have 2,500 hours on two sets of GTISO520’s with no down time and never an AOG . Maybe he was referring to total cost of ownership instead of reliability? I know you haven't had an AOG, but I know someone who was AOG with a $5k issue that only affects the geared engines and wasn't related to poor operation (starter adapter failed.)

Gerald, You have had great experience with the GTISOs. Congratulations to you. I wish more pilots were as skilled and as educated as you. As most of us here, you believe you’re gods gift to aviation. I salute you Mr. GTISO 520 whisper, with out you we would all feel better about ourselves!!!!

Ham fisted pilots create “PROP SHAFT” problems. One of my tenants has four 421C’s right next to my hangar. Like you I was cautious about 421 engines until I watched him overhauling engine after engine in his hangar. Then watching his engines on charter run reliably and safely with educated pilots. He also tears down and rebuilds the airplanes right next to me. It has been quite an educational experience for me and I am grateful. He is the reason I did not go from my Ram VII 340 to a 414A. I bought a good 421C instead and I am very happy I did.
