I insist that someone needs to make a decently priced 300 hp turbine.
My only question is if this is from the same Continental that can’t figure out how to manufacture cylinders that last to TBO. Indeed.

I saw this thing on the ramp the other day. Seems to be an aerial photography platform. Attachment: Tecnam.jpg

For most people the capital cost of a new plane is more important and I think diesel engines are more complex and more expensive than standard aircraft engines.
The better efficiency helps (maybe 20%?), but at long as avgas is available, it isn't enough to make up for the extra capital cost and weight. An increasing number of airports don't offer Avgas anymore. Jet A1 is a good alternative. And the Diesel engines don't care about altitude.

That's a Tecnam P2006, with two Rotax 912 engines. Pretty docile, low-cost 4-place twin that Tecnam mostly sells into the training market. The Rotax engines can run on either avgas or mogas, and are pretty fuel efficient. The 2006 burns fuel like a diesel (e.g., hourly fuel burn for both Rotax engines is probably 10-12 gph). That's about the same as the Lycoming derivative in my Carbon Cub FX3. Pretty efficient - comparable to a Diamond twin and less expensive to acquire.
They are pretty slow and docile by all accounts (140 knot cruise) so better as a trainer than as a traveling airplane. I do like their look however - good visibility with the wing placement and the spinners behind the pilot.
