G3000..... my G3X system is fully loaded and was around $18k i think, add $25k for two GTN's and a GMA35 i'll bet my panel can run circles around any other in functionality and ease of use, adding wing mounted infrared camera to it now, should make for an excellent setup Cirrus cost for this camera? $16k, my cost? $6k....same camera.....love experimental

As for costs, the dynon skyview touch does all that too for even less money. IMO dynon is the class act in this category but there are lots of other players. And updates are FREE
This is the way it should be for the so called "certificated" equipment.

One thing that is often different from something like this Stein Air panel is that many homebuilders do the panel themselves, thus eliminating the $8 in labor charges. Also, don't forget that this includes what would be perhaps a $30K autopilot in a certified plane. It's complicated..

It's complicated..
And an engine monitor, and a pitot tube, and some certified avionics (GTN/transponder), and a backup EFIS, and stick grips, and an ignition switch, and air vents
Easily over $100k in the certified world...

It's complicated.. It is....But I can't imagine tackling a panel like that myself. Stein will do just the wiring harness for incredibly cheap. You send him the boxes and tell him your layout. I'd been thinking about things like a 430W instead of a 650. But Sean's 650 only added maybe $3k over what a used 430W costs these days. In context, that's not much.

Agree there's a lot of value for the money. The 8K in labor from stein air was worth it to me !

Username Protected wrote: What is the cost difference in certificated v uncertificated avionics for an experimental--or do you have to install certificated equipment to be IFR legal? Someone who knows more will chime in, but my understanding is you have to have a certificated gps for /G and for ADS-B out, but that's about it. You do have to have the proper instruments for instrument flight, but I don't think they have to be certificated.
Actually wrong from a technical perspective, but correct from a practical perspective. The reality is the FAA stipulates the instruments must meet a specific standard. So you can either buy something that has been tested and meets the standard (certified equipment) or you install whatever you want and then get to provide the data and proof to the FAA that your equipment meets the standard.
