ABS magazine has a '68 36 with dual gps and amazing number of improvements including 550 with an asking price of $120. (It apparently was an ABS cover plane) Having owned an archer and now on my second A36, I would suffer the upfront and enjoy the efficiency and quality of a Bo. It can be done within the price parameters. As Larry Olsen says, " i will live in poverty so I can fly in style!"

The big Pipers are the best for a true 6-palce airplane - nose baggage, good useful load, hard to load out of CG, and adequate power with the big Lycoming. The Cherokee 6 - 300 is especially capable if you are not in a hurry. The turbo Saratoga is my favorite.

Can I expect more maintence with a Lance? The lance is a sturdy farm girl with birthing hips. The A36 is a leggy blonde. There is exacly -zero- wrong with a lance. Bonanza guys don't like the way it looks, don't like the way it feels, don't like the less elegant but equally functional bits and pieces. But in terms of actual function, safety and maintainability they are interchangeable.

For the price he can add a used waas GPS and the jump seats and still be way under budget. My family without me flew from Georgia to California and back in a six seater. The four kids were ages 7 to 14. No one complained.

He said he was willing to deal. I'd personally lean toward a straight tail NA.

And I don't know why. They are heavier and don't go any faster. Having the two-tank layout is a nice feature, but I believe that I available in the later six models.
