Yea sign me up for the cramped airplane that gets to a 500 mile destination 17 minutes earlier...

I 100% agree with this (and that's why I own a big, slow, comfy Cessna ). I just thought it was worth mentioning that the "50 year old airframe" you referred to in a derogatory way is still the fastest thing out there. Ill never own either even if I win the lottery as there are much faster AND more comfortable things out there for half a mil...

Think how great GA would be if you could get something like this for less than 250K which should definitely be possible if it wasn't for all of the roadblocks put in the way of GA innovation. I thought the same thing the whole way through the video. This is what is needed to have GA blow up, what would get so many more younger people into it, but not at today's prices. IMHO it is more about the lawsuits and liability adding to the cost of flying than anything else. Allow NTSB reports in court, cap lawsuits, enact a loser pays system. Eliminate situations where it is 100% pilot error but the plane manufacturer, engine manufacturer, GPS manufacturer, even the guy who painted the plane last get sued and have to settle, and costs would (should) drop.

Diamond is at least trying with their Diesel engine developments... Here's the deal with Mooney....a company with a product I love dearly. They suck at, and have almost always sucked at, making money. They make airplanes, but they don't make money. So over the years they have been sold again and again and again. They have shut down, re-opened, and then shut down again. They have defaulted on hangar rent in Kerrville and laid off their staff several times. But through it all they've pretty much managed to support the fleet by keeping parts going (for the most part). So a company that is business model challenged (Twitter excepted) is unattractive to most investors, and therefore there is no infusion of capital for R&D. But they did have some near misses, like with the Mustang that almost was good, or the Porshe Mooney that almost was good. Now the Chinese investors they seem to be reinvigorated more than they have been since the 70s. I wish them the absolute best success and I hope they innovate their brains out. The M20 airframe is the best in piston GA in my opinion.

Yea, when was the last time you flew 500 miles in a long body Mooney ? I flew 600 today and and was quite comfortable. Not that a Cirrus isn't comfy and more roomy in the back but to hate on the Mooney is incorrect. My back seat, once everyone is settled is actually a VERY comfortable seating position too. And all this from a guy that has high seats like my truck does Better yet BO guy, what have they done lately

My dad had a Mooney for a while and sold it and bought a Bonanza. The leg room isnt the issue. Its shoulder space, always has been.

Shawn shoulder width is 1.5" wider than a Bo. Tony my longest leg was 5:36 minutes, 1125nm at 17,000'. What a grand day. LOP I landed with 32 gallons. Burned 68. What a day!

I love V35 Bonanzas but the last one built was over 30years ago.
The Cirrus has the COOL factor and the NEW factor. I have seen quite a few at the airport lately and they can really cover some ground ! If i had the money I think I would buy a Cirrus . If Iam going to drop that kind of money yes I want the latest and greatest ,plus the interior is one you would expect ( I know it does not help it fly any better or faster ). To attract the younger pilots they want all of this , plus Cirrus does a good job of marketing ,plus the parachute thing. So I guess I will have to buy a lotto ticket.
I would still love to have a V35 ,Iam just a basic retro old fart .

And even in its most basic trim, it is more feature loaded than 99% of the legacy fleet. If you don't load up on the options, the UL on the NA SR22 is 1330lb. That's full tanks and 4 FAA adults with 30lbs luggage each. Adding the known ice package reduces the payload to 4 adults and 15lbs each.
