Those aren't tuna tanks. The tuna tanks were the early tanks.

Good looking airplane Arlen. I've only been in a 310 a couple of times, but I remember it as a hell of a ride.

Oops, my mistake. Do those tanks have a nickname?

I don't think they have a name...but they are a good bar bet.

Ask someone how long they are.....most guess way off....you could probably say, within a foot....

( about 500 hours in a few "R" models)

This morning, I paid the insurance bill, ordered BAS shoulder harnesses, and will order Aerosheep sheepskin covers when they open up. Photos of those installations in the upcoming weeks... :D

Yeah. The "Tuna" tanks were replaced in the G model (1962) by tanks that were canted up at a 30 degree angle.

For those not familiar, the big tip tanks are 50 gallons each and are the "mains," and 1964 *I* models like mine also have 15-gallon auxiliary tanks in each wing.....total of 130 gallons.

Arlen, is that 130 useable or total? I would expect the 310 to have a similar endurance as the 55, but if that's total fuel you'd have to be a lot more efficient to have the same endurance. What's your fuel burn and speed in cruise?

I'm only curious because the 310 is my 'other' choice, and now that I see the cool kids doing it...

;)
