Don't over look the Cessna 120/140. With good examples available for under 20K, the bang for the buck ratio is better than many of the examples referenced.

The 120/140 Fly-in was just 40 minutes down the road over the weekend and last week at Tullahoma. I just wasn't in a position to make it :-(

Greg Koontz is just across the boarder and could get your TD dance card up to snuff. I'm hoping to be at Tullahoma in late October for the fly in and if weather is good will come down in the C185, maybe camping. Be happy to take you out to bfast or a ride.

That's a cool site. A guy at our airport goes out every week and checks his cows in one of these: http://airbum.com/pireps/PirepSkyranger.html

Hard to go wrong with a Citabria, I just love it.

I have an L-2 Taylorcraft.... Think of it like a front seat solo Cub with legroom, and they hooked up the ailerons.

The L-2 however does need a Metal Prop, or an 85 horse conversion, or better yet both.....

And it's a Warbug....

Only one door on a citabria and there is an STC to fly with the door removed.

Does your L-2 still have the spoilers? Those are great fun, had access to one in college.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Maule.

I'd put a Maule more in a group with the 180. Fine plane, but not low/slow/cheap.

Yes... The spoilers are good fun... But, I got cocky once with them close to the ground, landed pretty hard and broke a landing gear bungee.... The bungee was tired... No other harm beyond ego....

The L-2 has a NACA 23012 airfoil like the Bonanza, Baron, King Air, Early Citations, and the Corsair. All airplanes renowned for having wonderful handling characteristics...

Just remembered, coming to my airport Oct 24th. I need to be there. Anyone wanting to come in, you/y'all can use our guest house. They said there were 35 transient airplanes there last year.
