Aside from that, it is the coolest of the cool! My $.02. MM I am trying to pock 1500 pickets so no one bleeds much. Hell it only burns 200 GPh block to block. They have cut back cruise speed dramatically because 100 LL is current fuel, no more 130 no more.

What we are gonna need is a whole lot of 100 dollar sponsors who are willing to put a few days of sweat equity into this. I am thinking of limiting the 10k sponsors to 25. We are past halfway on that.
We also need those business sponsors who would like some nose art.
Me thinks seeking an Experimental/exhibition classification might save a ton of money and offer a good deal of flexibility.

Well....I know that the 500 is not a Lockheed, and the fuselage is built for pressurization, and is not a converted anything...but to say it was a clean sheet design? Quote: The Howard 500 was similar to these aircraft but was very different having a completely brand new fuselage. The only major parts taken directly from its Lockheed forbearers were the outer wing panels (from surplus Venturas) and undercarriage (from Harpoons). Howard purchased wing and fuselage jigs from Lockheed to use as patterns for jigs for the new aircraft. The fuselage differed from the Ventura’s in being designed from the outset for pressurization. The wings were also redesigned to hold all the fuel needed for extended cross country trips. The pressurization system maintained a differential of 6.75 lb per square inch which was greater than any other prop or turboprop executive aircraft on the market at the time and maintained a sea level cabin pressure at up to 16,000 ft. http://www.acmp.com/blog/howard-500-gre ... iming.htmlNo argument here....but, Dee Howard really liked that design.

Dee Howard, Ed Swearingen, Bill Lear, Gordon Israel, Bill Conrad, et al, were all masters of modification and refinement of existing products, as well as engineers and inventors. Their list of successful accomplishments is impressive, indeed. Unfortunately, due to today's regulatory climate and requirements for massive financial resources, it is unlikely that we will see very many individuals like this again. MM

Planning a field trip to Phoenix to evaluate the old bird. Cannot get one of the Howard mechanics from Phillippi until fall. But we can do a prelim now to see if it can be pulled off. Do we have an IA amongst us we has expertise in electrical systems. Evidently it was professionally vandalized.
