But I always thought this would be perfect, two of these bad boys and no more dual mag. Not a very good location to mount the coil pack. One failed belt, on either the AC compressor of the alternator, and the wires could easily be damaged/severed. BTW, that isn't a -J2BD, that engine has two conventional mags. Jeff
I didn’t say it was a good location or a J2BD, but thanks for your opinion
I think you can have 2 systems installed and completely replace the dual mag. I haven’t looked into this much but I’m sure you have to wire in a backup battery or something for the dual setup.
I think the important thing is getting the cooling louvers from Kruger aviation to let the heat from cooking your magneto

My understanding is both Surefly and Electroair have permission for dual setups. There are specific conditions for the STC install; but I do not know it well enough except to say it was much more complicated and requires additional power backup sources.

Thanks. Krueger are the Superstar II experts for sure - they're also known for not being shy to charge very well for their services..

My mechanic unfortunately decided he no longer has time to maintain my Aerostar. I'm thinking that maybe I should start going to a real Aerostar shop rather than having someone learn from scratch on my dime. Does anyone have recommendations in the North East? Ideally one in Canada, but there don't seem to be any in Quebec that I can find. Alain, that's a no brainer...I was based outside of Toronto and took my Aerostar to Joel at Juliet Delta Aviation at KCXY. Extremely competent Aerostar guru, very honest and all around nice guy. Clear customs in Syracuse and then quick hop down to Joel's.

Extremely competent Aerostar guru, very honest and all around nice guy. I would agree with that! My Aerostar went to them to fix a few things that I couldn't fix and a prebuy for the next owner. I was impressed with Joel's knowledge. Great little family operated organization. With a few exceptions, he only works on Aerostars.

Figures, I have 20’ 5” in my T hangar. Does putting flaps down make much difference in T hangar?

Like the Commander, the lower bidder on Aerostar maintenance is most certainly not the best value. You’ve been through that school of hard knocks, no? I’m guessing those guys who have developed a reputation for making that unique install work are worth every penny they charge and then some. Just a guess.
