Fill me in on the details, I should be back in CLT by next weekend, and then for 3 weeks or so.

Interesting Glasair on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Glasair-3- ... 37&vxp=mtrThis would make it the newest Glasair III in the country. A couple of things I would want done that it does not have: NACA scoop on the right side of the cowling to directly feed the oil cooler. Greatly assists in oil cooling. Extended rudder and lower strake for more rudder authority and more stable yaw in cruise. Extended wing tips for better high altitude handling and performance along with safer engine out options and lower stall speeds, etc. You also get 11 gallon more fuel making it a much better x-country machine. 3-bladed Hartzell SS prop for better climb and take off performance along with much better ability to slow the plane down when entering the pattern. Looks better also and is more quiet. The ad also does not mention if it has the fully redundant gear extension system with dual actuators to the nose gear. If not, that is a must in my opinion along with a mirror on the wing to see the gear. Incredible machines!

That is a gorgeous plane! Great panel! He claims 330 hp -- how is that possible?

It is pretty easy to do. The stock angle valve IO-540 puts out 300HP with factory mags. The electronic ignition alone adds another 7-10% of HP by being able to adjust the timing for MP and RPM and by also providing a longer duration of spark during the combustion cycle. I'm probably getting about the same HP right now with mine. If you go to 10:1 compression pistons you are talking about 350HP. Of course, when you use the HP you use the fuel required to make it as well. The real benefit to higher HP is being about to make normal HP at a higher altitude.

Username Protected wrote: Are they able to put any type of de-ice system on the newer Glasairs? I'm considering that now. The guys at RDD will install Therm-x on the Glasair for $35k, but I'm not sure about it yet. The early systems on the Columbia were problematic, but the owners of new installs say it works great. I would really like to have a TKS system, but getting the panels made would probably be cost prohibitive since few Glasair owners would probably opt for it. It is the biggest drawback of owning this plane.

Username Protected wrote: Todd, this traveling long distances in iffy weather is still new to me. How many months of the year is icing an issue for us Midwesterners? You get some ice where you are, but we get ice all the time. With the Great Lakes icing is a huge problem here. I have had icing in July here, but realistically it starts in early October and goes until mid May with the worst being November through April. You need TKS on that red Bo. Funny thing is that you sell ice makers to remove ice
