It’s automated. Nobody is siting at a console with a button marked “MECO” next to one marked “Stage”. They were just over half way to staging altitude (around 40 km vs around 70). Since that condition wasn’t met, the flight computers continued doing what they were told to do. It might have been entertaining to see stage separation and Starship fly on its own, but it would never have made it to orbit, and then you have to contend with the question of where it would come down when it ran out of fuel.

Sort of OT for this... but I took the Breezy KOKB to KBRO to watch/film the launch... Today I fly back commercial to Brownsville to retrieve the breezy... Westbound is always fun in a plane that goes 60 knots.... Based on the wind forecast it should be good. Tuesday looks good wind wise at least as far as Van Horn. The section from Van Horn to Deming will have some headwinds... In I ideal world I get to Deming on Tuesday evening... It would be best to do the section from Deming to Tucson early Wednesday to not repeat my Oshkosh return where I saw 19Knots GS at one point. This trip seemed like such a good idea in the planning stages...

You know its a really bad day when bicyclists are passing you. Hopefully you don't have it that bad on your return.

Just don't follow them into any tunnels or under any bridges.

We all knew this was coming So basically they are accusing the FAA of violating 91.13? They would have sued either way I bet (ie had there not been a RockNado). Me: Can't wait for the next launch.

Could not make myself elevate in one. It’s funny, at Oshkosh as a kid I watched them flying around giving rides. My dad never agreed (he was the bankroll). He thought it looked fairly crazy. I thought it would be awesome.
These days I understand my dad better, though I wish I had taken the ride when it would have been fun.

I was targeting TJ with that but I guess it might have applied to you as well. I "learned to fly" in a couple different towed kites when I was 15 and while that process also involved several "crashes" I eventually figured most of it out. But looking back hanging in the wind under the kite never felt scary, it was the landings (and crashes) that were a bit more concerning. Of course at 15 I was pretty much immortal (in my mind).

Breezy's home. Windy.com detailed wind predictions were exactly dead nuts on...
9.4 Hrs in the breezy yesterday. 5.9 hrs in the breezy today. KBRO to KOKB I'm wiped.
Came west faster than I went east by using the detailed wind predictions to pick a day and a route.
Nice picture of the breezy tied down at Deming last night...
