One of the 550’s I fly is both at Hot section and TBO. It also needs a Phase I-V. The primary lessee uses this aircraft 300-400 hours a year making it potentially economically viable to do the hot sections and inspections and continue flying now.

Step 1 was to have the engine shop assess potential hot section costs. They remove key components from the engines for inspection. The hope is $50k an engine for hot sections.

One complicating factor is this aircraft has had many many pilots fly it over the last 5 years. 30 at least.

Here is a quote without knowing anything about what they would find.

The plan was to do the hot sections and fly it over tbo part 91. But to make it work the hot sections needed to be economical (35-60k) each. What are the odds of that given so many pilots had operated the aircraft over most of the last 3-5 years? What do we think the hots will cost knowing nothing more than what I have posted?

Haha. I am probably way off. Don’t deal with Citation engines. With our engines for budget I normally Double the quote and add 15% to that. 56,000X2=112,000X1.15=128,800. But since its a guessing game I pick $127,624.58 because it sounds like a good number.

We have a long time P&W guy we use as an advisor. More than once (not on our aircraft), he's told a facility to put something back in that they wanted to change out. If you don't have someone represent you, you're likely to get replacements that may meet spec, but the shop will tell you you might as well do the work while they're in there and other excuses to expand the work. They have little incentive to be cost effective and a large incentive to do more work. Hope it goes well.

That a per engine guestimate?

HT blades is going to be the budget buster if needed.

Mark, is this first or second TBO on the engines?

OK, what's the deal with "HT" blades?

I see that when browsing Controller from time to time and have no idea what it even means.

Interesting read here - https://www.justanswer.com/business-law/1te2i-involves-internal-damage-pratt-whitney-jt15d-1a-engine.html One post claims 15% of all hot sections require HT blade replacements.
