We talked about it and he told me what to expect. It is not something you really want to practice in real life for a few reasons. The first reason is that gear speed is 120 knots and the best speed to pump down the gear is 100 knots. When the gear comes out in this plane the resultant drag is incredible. It does not like to fly slow and with the gear down it really does not like to fly. At 100 knots and level with the gear down your are pulling pretty good power and a lot of torque. You really don't want to be "practicing" pumping the gear down as it only takes a few seconds of not paying attention to be in a nose high/low airspeed uncoordinated position where stall/spin is a real threat. Instead, practice pumping it down on the jacks.
The guy giving me the instruction also was not sure if my plane had the "dual reservoir" system that recaptured the hydraulic fluid when you used the manual gear extension. In the old designs the excess fluid was pumped overboard when you pumped the gear down. I later found out that I not only had the newer reservoir system, but also had the completely redundant nose gear actuator system. There are two separate actuators and lines going to the nose gear so if one fails the other will extend the nose gear. The main gears will free fall into locked position by themselves.
As for trading, I don't think so at this time. I really do love this plane. 220 knots on 13 GPH is pretty nice and the ability to descend at 245 knots and still be in the green arc is pretty incredible. If I do every sell it I will want a Bonanza or SR22 with TKS as a minimum and most likely a Malibu. That really is my only concern - ice.

Damned sexy plane though, something to dream for... Nah, the plane is super easy to fly - especially with the extended tips. The extra 3 foot of wingspan makes it fly like a V35 with 3 less foot of wing and 1000 lbs less weight I was very comfortable flying it literally after 1 minute of being at the controls. The only thing you MUST respect in this plane is it's ability to "fall out" of a aerobatic maneuver and it's ability to pile on airspeed and rate of descent quickly. Last fall I took my wife to FL and the cloud tops were 11k and bases 1500. I wanted to get through them quickly so I pitched for 245 indicated (that was only 5 degrees down) and watched the VSI immediately spool up to 5k/min. We pounded through the bumps like they were not even there. My wife commented on how smoothly and quickly we were able to descend as compared to every other trip. There is nothing about this plane that I do not like when it comes to ability other than the fact that ice is a no no.
