I couldn’t see the ASI to see how fast was the speed bleeding off? Otherwise yeah that doesn’t look normal for the AOA donut to move down that fast.

Looks like it leveled off at 2300 ft on the visual approach, which is where the altitude pre select was set. Does the altitude pre select have to be lowered say to the DH on the visual approach for the AP to follow the visual glide path on down?

I’ll have to watch the video but I don’t remember the GS ever coming down. I let it ride to see if it would, but finally disconnected when we were going to be too high if we continued.

Yeah your right. I thought it had captured the glide slope and then stopped at 2300, but the GS never showed up.

AOA was on the left side of the AI and also on the indexer on the glareshield.

Indexer indicated he was faster than Vref the entire approach until wheels hit the runway.

I think AOA works fine, you are just flying final fast. Or you are off on your Vref calculation, maybe because your landing weight is off.

Have you tried flying the AOA indicator on final instead of airspeed?

BTW, I do hate having the FD V bar out of sync indication a right turn while flying straight on final.

My recollection was that the GS was flagged the entire time. We had that happen a couple times when trying to fly the visual. Beware guys.

We were a little fast in both vids. The first was due to the steep descent trying to make the Visual approach work, and the second was a faster flat approach to a long runway to ensure we could roll out to the end without causing a go around for the Citation in trail.

Proceed with caution Jesse. If you stop smoking now you can kick the urge your feeling. If you continue down this path it becomes almost impossible to stop.

Your brain starts to come up with creative ways to justify FL400 and silky smooth flying when your bouncing along in the weather sucking O2 in a piston. Ask me how I know!

I seem to recollect his speed was within 10 knots of Vref the entire time. Jesse is very good at speed control. We used APG to calculate Vref. Might the weight be a bit off? Hmmm. Not more than a couple hundred pounds.

I do remember he was fast at KVXY. 20 knots fast. But that 421 experience kicked right in.

Noticed the FD off as well. Both landings.

To think my asking you to fly started two years ago. Haha. You are actually ahead at this point moneywise.

The 550 have a flying AOA vane that rotates like the 525?

On the 525 the AOA vane can start hanging up and not rotating freely. The bearings and the race it runs in goes out of round when the pitot/AOA heat is left on on the ground for too long. It gets spots where it hangs up which may account for the jumping around.

When you preflight it, roll it around and see if you feel any roughness or where it might be catching.

Yup same type of AOA.

Its similar to this on the copilot side. It is heated and it rotates.

There are three indicators but I’m not sure if they all tie to the same probe.
