I use a golf cart to move my 601 around. it does so no problem. I got really brave the other day and had extra time so tried pulling my 601 all the way from the far north end of the field to the south end for the less expensive self serve. our runway is 6000' so that's a good mile. EZ GO made the round trip no problem.

I use the power tow lazy susan tow. Works well and then one doesn't have to turn the gear. Turning the gear too far can break the steering collar. Turing the gear too fast can also break the collar because the hydraulic steering actuator resists the turning and needs time to push the hydraulic fluid out. It cannot do this if you turn too tow bar too fast.
Also the area where the gear attaches is prone to cracks. It is called the hat section. There is an upgrade to strengthen the hat section. Some aerostars have it and some don't.
As long as one is careful and doesn't exceed limits any tow system should work.

Would one of you ENGINE BUILDERS please explain not the various combos but instead the differences in the Case itself for U2A and MM?

Call Aerostar Aircraft and ask for Jim Christy and he can walk you through the details. Or maybe on of the other members will pipe up on the details. I know just enough o get in hot water. Tim

This question doesn't require an engine builder to answer: The U2A engine was built for the Piper 700 Aerostar, it has a heavy case that was designed for 350HP. The MM modification are Machen mods to get 700HP out of S1A5 or an AA1A5 engine. A MM moded engine uses whatever case you have.

"Every buyer, and every seller have to decide on a mutually acceptable price, if they can't agree, buyer keeps his money and seller keeps his plane. Nothing wrong with that." Spot-on Forrest. All things are possible with time and/or money!

Hi Don, I'm definately on the "buyer keeps his money" side of things....most all the time! Lol.... My value on things never seem to be what others want! On another note - We need what you do in the corporate world in the federal gov. I know..... I work there!

Forrest - are you going to stick with S1A5's or go to 700? I ended up in a 700 and am extremely happy with it and it fits my mission well, but I make a blood sport of second guessing what flavor of ice cream I choose, and 601P's are such efficiency kings. There are flavors of Aerostars that fit every mission.

I think Piper is selling new Seneca V's for much more than that, which would you rather have?
I agree that it's hard to understand prices like that for new or refurbished airplanes when a well kept example that will do exactly the same thing is available for a fraction of that number, but I am glad there are people with the resources and will to refurb some of these machines and keep the GA fleets viable for the future.
