duals G600s and dual 530s.

who does the STC on the G600s? and would this airplane have altitude preselect?
is that a well-worn path (G600s)?

Hi Gary,

What are they asking? Times look good - max seating configuration is nice. Panel is pretty good although it could really be cleaned up with a couple of 750s and remote xponders, audio panel, etc. My understanding is that there are 2 STCs for Garmin in a 501 - JetTech and Columbia (Blackhawk). They should send you the Traxall/SierraTrax report and that should tell you. On mine there are inspections for the JetTech STC that show up in the inspection list. I assume Columbia/Blackhawk would be the same.

For altitude preselect you need to confirm that it has a GAD-43e. That is the box that allows the G600 to talk to the Sperry Flight Director. Should be listed in the SierraTrax report.

mid 800s I recall. maybe 830? seemed a tad on the high side.

The GAD 43e provides the attitude information to the AP, so it would be weird if they don't have it.

In my setup, Blackhawk/Columbia, GAD 43e provides the attitude information. The preselect is handled by an ADC adapter box that converts the digital air data from Garmin into analog signals the Sperry FD box uses. This replaces the Sperry ADC, but adds this adapter box.

In the JetTech STC, the Sperry ADC is retained, I think.

In any case, altitude preselect is there.

What is missing is VNAV. That will come with an AP STC from either Garmin or Genesys/STEC.

VNAV is working with the Jet Tech, I've seen it with my own eyes. The Columbia requires a Skylight 602 box that no longer exists. You have a very big problem if it breaks. The Jettech reinstalls the removed original Sperry AZ-241. There's a playing card size magic box in the works to replace that AZ-241.

Curious how that works.

Blackhawk has another method using an IS&S box now.

I've fixed a number of them and helped people out.

Clunky.

That wouldn't be hard technically.

The real solution is a digital AP and ditch as the interface box crap. It will save at least 100 lbs more and be vastly more reliable and effective. That is what I am waiting for.

is that a well-worn path (G600s)?

Bringing this thread back to the top. Been talking with my parents about finding a plane for them. They would be hiring pilots to fly them out of Havasu. I’ve been suggesting we make a call to Tarver’s Gently Used Citations but this one is still available too. I’m not smart enough to interpret the avionics STCs. Can you guys help explain what it’s missing if anything for a robust panel?

Give Tarver a call. He knows more about these planes than almost anyone else, and what it takes to fly them as an owner pilot. You’ll find out what you need when you speak to him.

Call me anytime. I looked at this airplane and rejected it. It’s too rough to join my flock.

I spoke to that broker a few months back. I thought he said they were asking around 800k. the owner had already taken delivery of another jet, and was eager to sell.

If you can find the right 501, you won’t regret it! Many on controller have been rode hard and put away wet. I will add that Tarver is a wealth of knowledge. I found my plane by asking around and putting out to the community that I was in the market for a 501. Picked mine up 40 miles down the road from where I live. Happy hunting!
