When I first heard of the "Autoland" technology being used on the Bonanza in the video I referenced, my buddy that worked at Rockwell Collins explained to me.....
The fella that had created this did his doctoral thesis on FADEC for small aircraft back in the 80's or so. He then created a "shoe box sized" piece of equipment that had built in gps receivers as well as other accelerometers and such that was used on the first UAV's. (maybe not huh?) Anyway, that this same technology was used in the "autoland" product and that, if it weren't for the fact that it would obviate the need for the huge ticket products already out there, that there was no reason we couldn't use it today, or 5 years ago or even 10?
So, whatcher a tellin me is that our current UAV's don't possess such technology/capabilities?

Dean....the technology exists....it works a lil different than you described.....but AF guys don't have the autoland....like the Army guys. So you think I liked the Cirrus yesterday because Angelina Jolie has one? She wasn't in the plane. The reasons I thought the Cirrus were awesome were clearly stated in my original post. Not one mentioned a celebrity. Not one the options I mentioned is available on a Beechcraft either. My beef is with folks who blindly follow a manufacturer who couldn't care less about them. Why support a company doing nothing and bad mouth the only guy in the room actually innovating and making GA a long term reality?

There's a legitimate reason people buy them. "Better at marketing" is part of the formula to "being a better company" than your competitors.

Flying is an awesome experience, but not many of the people who can afford a Brand New G36 or SR22 want to learn in a ragged C152, or even C182 with G1000 when you put a Cirrus next to it. Go find us a flight school operating G36s for these people to learn in.. there are plenty of places you can train on a state of the art SR20, which except for a little more HP & right rudder on take-off, is the SAME airplane as the SR22!

I am heading there in June and will shoot this approach in the NA Baron. I have done it before, it definitely gets your attention. I wish I had spoilers!

All of this comes first hand from the Atlanta Cirrus sales rep a few months ago. This is true. I did everything to get my friend to buy a TNG36. I flew him in mine etc. It's also true that the Beech rep returned neither my phone calls nor my friends phone calls. The Cirrus salesmen were all over my friend. They even had 3 SR22's to choose from sitting right there. Not a 6 month lead time like at Beech. I am no longer a Bonanza owner. Re-wind to 2008 when I bought my G36, I would make that decision again. If I were in the market for a piston single right now, I would buy that SR22 in a second. Sorry fellas but I can't even get TN from the factory at Beech. Owning my G36 was truly a labor of love. I put a lot into that plane that it didn't come with and Beech folks frowned on every upgrade. A lot has changed since 2008.
