KSNA aka John Wayne aka Orange County has some pretty complex arrival and departures. Flew the EMLLD.DSNEE1 arrival. Given a waiver on 280kt speed restriction. Check out the Wizard of OZ waypoints.
The PIGGN1.cnery departure is also pretty busy too. Lots of quick turns with required altitude ranges. Depart at night toward the black hole of the pacific.
Got to set it up right and be ready to anticipate turns, altitudes, speeds.
Single pilot is worse as both are during busy times at low altitudes. Have to be ahead of the aircraft. You get behind and miss a turn or speed or altitude it is going to be all asses and elbows.

Btw as much as I like the Garmin796 because of its resistance to overheating, big screen and Sirius XM, these procedures demonstrate a HUGE flaw...the inability to insert arrivals and departures. Garmin Pilot gives you this capability but the hardware (iPad/iPhone) is inferior. Plugging all these waypoints in is not manageable. Especially when you get a procedure change enroute. BWTFDIK?

You flying the 550 with 530W or Universal FMS? The SID/STAR should be in the DB and load all the waypoints. Otherwise I would put negative RNAV SID/STAR in the FP and tell ATC you are not equipped to fly RNAV SID/STAR.

I fly one with an FMS and one with the 500. No worries there. I like to use the 796 for back up because of the Sirus / XM capability. My point is the stars and sids are not available on the 796 which makes it pretty cumbersome. GP is better but has no Sirus /XM capability and a poor hardware solution IMO. First world isssues to be sure. There is always Foreflight..... Ha!

Mark can the G500 use the FS 210? I'm loving pushing flight plans from FF to GTN 750 or vice versa to my iPad. I use 796 in TBM and having to put in waypoints for SID/STAR is torture and heaven forbid change on the fly is a real PIA. Have net checked to see if FS210 moves flight plan to 796 but I'd guess it does. Sad that 796 doesn't have SID/STARs. Is 660 is the same. I'm thinking of adding it to panel of 185/195's for back up AI etc. (size fits) but I prefer 796 but it's too big for space. Sorry thread drift. Back to babes I mean videos.....

The GNS500 can use the FS210. Or I can hardwire it. No problem there. But I fly 3 different Citations and soon the Lear. So 3 out of the four don't have that option. This is really an issue for aircraft that fly SIDS/STARS. The 796 is great in the 185. I wish Garmin would choose to change their strategy on this product and the 660. It really makes both products bad choices for certain aircraft. As Luc says...maybe FF! Ha. Except it has the same hardware as GP. So never mind.

Which works in the frozen north. I had the iPad give me the X at the least convenient opportunities, like departing out of TEB. The iPad is a toy, the 796 a piece of hardware purpose built for aviation/marine use.

What are the orange balls sitting on the plastic bracket just above the dash? My apologies for what's probably a newbie question. Todd Scott

Todd Scott You adjust the seat until you see the tree balls on one level. That way your sight position within the screen is correct so you dont drag your landing gear through the localizer or land on the nosewheel due to an incorrect sight picture. It's a jet thing but should probably be in any aircraft.
