Here is a real twilight zone story. Got a call at the office from the FAA re one of the Citations I fly. Turns out they got an email alleging I was operating an illegal charter. Pointed them to Beechtalk and the post I made about bringing bankers from PWK to SAW and back when the weather forced all commercial flights to cancel. Saved them three days and frankly allowed our meeting to go forward. The email said they paid me 2500/hr plus crew cost. Also mentioned a friend of mine from Facebook. That he has received services. Guy has never been near my aircraft. Good guy though.

So I explain the whole situation of that flight with the caveat most would counsel me to involve a lawyer. The guy listens and says "clearly you know the rules...why should someone make this stuff up?" I said well there is this troll on BT who made up an FDC NOTAM and got booted as a result. He says "I know the type". I said his name was Myron Forsyth. He laughs ands says the email was unsigned but Forsyth was in the email address.

I gave the guy my number and said call me anytime. Sorry you got dragged into the world of BT trolls.

He said case would be closed today.

It might be to your benefit to have the FAA substantiate (identify) the source of the claim, then have your lawyer send a cease and desist letter to the source advising them that making false accusations to authorities is libel and will subject them to civil litigation leading to actual and punitive damages.

The purpose of the letter to stop these problems (which can get very messy for you), and if they don't stop, to substantially increase the size of the punitive damage award since that shows deliberate and willful intent on the part of the source.

Good idea. Of course this is where that freaking troll starts costing me money.

If the FAA starts taking any of this seriously, or the unwanted attention results in other undesirable side effects, that will cost you money, too.

A letter costs almost nothing and often works.

Wow...simply wow. Sounds like you handled it well. I would agree with Mike C on having your lawyer draft a letter. Minimal cost, and could be a benefit.

Just to show you I am not deterred!

Arriving Scottsdale on a right base towards the McDowell Mountains. Flying with a guy who is about to sit for his IFR. Real low time guy just wanting to go along for the ride.

Did the investigator try to substantiate any of this before contacting you? Have direct contact with the instigator?

Tom:

My sense was that the call to me was the first call.

I have had no contact other than a couple PM's a while back.

Mark, I agree with Mike C.

I don't know why this guy is fixated on you and what you're doing but we've crossed over into a point where it's no longer amusing or cute. Now it's got potential to be a real problem. Spend a few bucks and have your lawyer smack this guy. He either crawls back down the hole he came from or we can drop the gloves. Choice is his.

Anyway, it's good to see some more from you. Keep doing what you're doing.

Great landing captain!
Good memory taking Red Bo there from Sedona.
Squawk change indeed puzzling.
Love the landing flaps oh about here....
There often is a perimeter road around the airports I fly to. Crossing that one is when I go from flaps 10 to flaps full. Oh about here.....

Landed at SDL about a month ago, in daylight coming from the West, that runway is a bugger to spot. So many buildings along and around the runway. Much easier at night.

The audio and video on your recordings is as clean as it could be, nice work.
( even on centerline... )
