Generally, if you get above the jetstream, the ride will be good and the winds can drop off significantly. Of course, if you want to take advantage of a good tailwind, you try to get into the jetstream. But the ride can be a crapshoot, especially as you get near the top of the jetstream.

Looks like the Citation V isn't available for my return trip; so, we're flying back in an Ultra (at the same hourly rate.) I know I'll receive a great deal of sympathy from my long time friends here on the board

I suspect you're working hard at it though. How many hours training so far?

Counting study for and passing ATP or just the Citation type rating?
Only two days of formal classroom training for the type. Almost 10 hours flying the plane on trips but no actual flight training for the type ride yet. Supposed to fly two days next week before check ride if comfortable. Many hours in the flight manual learning systems, annunciators, abnormal and emergency procedures.
One can do it quicker. I really am enjoying taking my time and learning more than needed to just pass the check ride.

Best,

Dave

Dave,

Stay out of a C-650. Fast, roomy, APU, swept wing, trailing link gear and they are really nice to fly...

Scrubbed the flight to Madison today. 2 to 300 OVC, BZ and DZ almost all day. Might have given it a try, but there wasn't a reasonable alternate in 200 miles. Couldn't find 600 feet where there was an ILS with decent facilities if we couldn't get into Madison. Finally called the dry lease folks and they were pretty assertive that we should give it a try. So, I'm supposed to fly to Madison on my nickel, possibly go missed, fly hundreds of miles to an alternate and get stuck with 2 three-year-olds; a one-year-old, and a pregnant niece whose seven months along, maybe need a hotel, transportation, etc, and pay for a LOT of extra gas and a pilot while I'm sitting around=--RIGHT. I pointed out several facts and they argued until I just flat said: we aren't flying in that. So, plane is available tomorrow. We'll see.
Gotta tell you, owning your own plane so you have availability and make your own decisions is sure the way to go. Much as folks promote leasing, today is a prefect example of an extreme conflict of interest and possibly great inconvenience at my expense so they can keep their planes flying while we sit somewhere we didn't need to be.

Easy decision. Why do you care what they think regarding this matter? Not that you should be disrespectful...but I'd simply tell them if I want your opinion I will ask. Otherwise...stfu.

Total bs for them to pressure you in anyway.

That said, it is only pressure if you allow it to be so.

Thanks. I really look at things and try to find a way to go. Just a bit frustrating when I do scrub to have someone want to argue about it. I do like to fly in this stuff too, but jet fuel in this thing isn't cheap and the probability of not getting in with little kids and pregnant niece doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Looking a bit better today. Not at Madison, but at least there is reasonable weather at alternates to the SW. It all blows out tomorrow. So, we'll chat a bit later and see what it does.

This sounds like sound aeronautical decision making to me!
