Ok Mark, you fly hundreds of hours each year in all types of aircraft. (Floatplane soon!). You're as current as it gets.
Just how hard is this single pilot sim flying?
Seems really intense.

Happy to report I passed my SPW checkride today. Pretty intense 2.5 hours plus the oral.

The videos I am posting are essentially the check ride in order of occurrence.

The thing that wears you out is the quantity of failures. In this video I wind up single engine no AP doing a miss.

Odds of that? almost zero.

I would guess they could see you are very proficient (and a good stick) and pressed hard to help you learn.

Fair assessment. Since my TPE has flown as my SIC i didn't feel like he had a lot of doubt about my capability. It was a fair test but it felt more like a collaborative effort to make me a better pilot vs a grilling to test if I was safe. Then again, that might be my imagination.

It's good that Simcom will let you video the training session. Flight Safety won't let it happen. They do have a neat system that captures everything including flight track, vertical profile, and cockpit video but the customer doesn't get a copy. It would be good to have a video to review.

Had to go to the top to get the sign off. Made me a loyal supporter. Gives me a chance to see where I was less than optimum. Chance to fix the leaks in my game. Sometimes my instructor and I saw things differently. Video proved who was right. Him. :tape:

FSI should get over themselves. It's about the customer.

I will say we used to get good course materials. Printed and bound. Now we get zero. Liability concerns. Some shameful $hit if you ask me.

These guys did me right in the new world.

I am 550, 560, Ultra qualified based on differences courses.

Looks a lot like what I remember from 135 recurrent except a ton more hand flying! We got to shoot one, maybe two approaches without the AP. For everything else, including the single engine stuff the autopilot was encouraged.

Simcom told us explicitly we could NOT video our sessions in the MU2 sim.

Requests to change that fell on deaf ears. Apparently, this was a policy change about 4 years ago, at least for that sim.

Video is a very useful tool because the person "in the box" has a very warped perception of what they are doing in the moment. Time can be perceived to be much slower or faster than they think, for example. They may not remember doing something, they may remember doing something they didn't. The video doesn't lie and serves as an objective review of what happened.

Good.

A real pilot can hand fly.
