The remainder have an Envirosystem, ACM + Freon, two zones (cockpit + cabin). Matt got it right, except minor niggle the early system is actually an ACM (Air Cycle Machine) w/optional freon a/c. The later Enviro systems are basically just a couple of heat exchangers and flow control valves, and only do heat. They come standard with freon a/c for cooling. There is an optional third heat exchanger (cooler) that can do a bit more pre-cooling of the bleed air for "operation in warmer climates". I have yet to really experience mine so can't comment on the effectiveness. But everyone says the freon a/c is desirable.

Do any of you guys have the WOODWARD Propeller Synchrophasor on a I or II? Does it make much of a difference?
Just curious. Didn't realize it was ever an option.

It adjusts both propellers to maintain proper phase relationship & synchronization, and will not reduce propeller rpm below that selected. TYPE II is more precise and may be left ON during all operations, including engine start and shutdown.

Afaik, the piaggio only has one that was ever installed/approved and it's type2 Synchrophaser but POH still says to turn it off for take off/landing.

For what it's worth, I have a friend with the Piaggio and also a King Air 90, both owned for more than a decade. He prefers the Piaggio over the King Air for longer flights, plus appreciates the quietness of the Piaggio. His pilot I've known for 20 years and the pilot truly loves the flight characteristics of the Piaggio. He still loves to admire the lines (as we all do) of the Piaggio.

Appears lost last night off the east coast of Costa Rica. 5 souls aboard If it's correct, it's the first civilian fatality in a P180 ever, I think. Very sad.

if confirmed, first ever for type, no matter if civilian or military ops. Very sad.

Being discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=212858I hope there are survivors. Ironically I was just having a discussion with a pilot who flies a P180 based here in Kuwait. If the front wing is damaged (bird strike, etc.), does the horizontal stabilizer still have enough pitch authority to make a safe landing? Update: based on ADS-B data, it appears the pilot mistakenly selected zero altitude in the FMS and did not realise the error until below 1,000 feet. Then he selected 8,000 feet in the FMS. However, it appears he may have pulled the plane up hard and incurred an accelerated stall. Plane was over water and the crash happened about 45 minutes after sunset.

Well, 11 months later and 500k less in my wallet and my plane is back home from it's 5 year inspection.
Gonna have to relearn this thing.
