This is completely personal preference and most people probably won't agree with me, but I think on Aerostars in particular, due to their bullet shape, they look best (again, to me) when they have paint schemes that don't incorporate a strip or line along the midriff. Or worse, a darker belly. It makes them look like boats.

You want to enhance that bullet feel by having one uniform color on the nose, uninterrupted by lines or another tone. In my opinion, the second tone is best reseved for the rear parts or rudder. But again, this is just me.

Some of the original schemes are quite cool in the retro way and compliment the plane. I don’t mind the two tone if done with some flow. It’s easy to screw up the proportions.

I really liked the looks of a dark metallic blue on any airplane. The blue and silver one on this quarters AOA Log was sharp. The silver is a b#$&h to touch up though.

There is a lime green one with winglets around the Akron area that is also beautiful. I can't find a picture of it at the moment.

Even though mine is a 90's Piper scheme, it looks good and get a ton of comments, but not as fast as the modern schemes.

The quarantine has slowed things down...a waiting game for me like lots of others I guess.

That might be it John. I seem to remember a little more green, but it's been a few years since I seen it and I was in a hurry. I know it caught my eye.

I seen it at Mayday Avionics in Grand Rapids about 2016 or so...

N29DP!! That was the first Aerostar I ever flew...Oct 15, 1990. I was out of college and ferrying airplanes for The Dealer at Love Field to build time while looking for a regular flying gig. He sent me to Greenwood SC to pick that ship up and bring it to DAL. I had never flown an Aerostar before, so I took a flight manual with me to study while heading to SC. It hadn't flown in about a year (previous owner scared himself in it, parked it and walked away), so it needed some grease in a few areas. I started the engines with a battery cart and taxied around a bit to get used to the nosewheel steering. Shut down the engines, topped the fuel tanks, then started up again and taxied out for takeoff. Imagine my surprise when it flew like a real airplane. The only glitch was an erratic airspeed/VSI indication on climbout, but the alternate static source made the needles behave again. That was a fun trip...GRD-MLU-DAL, 4.9 hours block time. I kinda like the retro-looking paint scheme. I wonder where that thing ended up? Probably a scrap yard somewhere by now.
