Ale,

JGG is just an old codger :bud: like me that thinks through a very narrow prism these days. :hide: At least my kids think I am and do.

His taste is eccentric, J3 aficionado just saying, and I'm pretty sure most of that sentence you take homage with is just funning... If not IMO he's wrong as he-- :) , cause a CC is absolutely a hoot... :D Just like a J3 but different...

:coffee:

I was liking your post until I read this. I had a J3 and then the Carbon Cub. A natural progression in my experience. Same handling and nostalgia but with a lot of power, great finishes, and nice avionics.

Alejandro,

Your Carbon Cub is a super airplane. Super to the point that it bears little resemblance to an old stodgy J-3; like comparing Don Knotts and Jack Lalane. Like comparing Roseanne Barr and Loni Anderson. Sure it's a knock off, just like the Husky, they took a proven name and design and made it better. That is not a slight in any way. My point is, and you certainly understand it, if someone wants a Cub, buy a Cub. If they want a super performing modern reinvention, buy the Carbon Cub, but please, let's not pretend they are buying a Cub. :peace:

Don Knots - Jack LaLane?
Loni Anderson- Rosanne Barr??
Leaping Lizards, thats almost as far back as Groucho Marx and Johnny Weissmuller.
You might have lost some of the younger folks with that one. :)

 I’m lost, but you haven’t lost me. You’ll have to reach a little further back in time to do that. I’m waiting for Elizabeth Montgomery, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Marilyn to join your inestimable group. I’ll pilot them to all points of the Earth. Then I’ll know I’m in Aviation heaven!

Don't forget Mary Anne.

This may sound weird and has nothing to do with Cubs, but.

I was watching Groucho Marx outtakes the other night on "youtube" and was entranced by some of the beautiful ladies he had on as contestants. They were all tastefully dressed with 50's hair styles and gave out such a classic allure that I was absolutely mesmerized.

IMO, today's styles don't do a beautiful woman and favors.

Call me "old fashioned" about women and Cubs. :D

Back on the subject: Cubs and what they are good for-with a slight digression. Two weeks ago my 19 year old new private pilot daughter and I went to Tutima Flight academy for a week's worth of aerobatic training in Extra 300's. At the beginning of the week, my daughter had never been upside down in an airplane. By the end of the week she was entering inverted flat spins from a vertical line (and recovering) and doing Lomcevaks. It was outstanding training for both of us. However, it was stressful on me. I felt exhausted after each flight.

This week, I crawled back into my Super Legend Cub for two evening flights. First off, in comparison to the Extra, the controls felt like they were set in wet cement. I had zero temptation to do aerobatics. Then, after 15 minutes, the reasons I love flying Cubs came back to me. I putted around over Fort Worth looking out of the open door and saw what is happening in the city. I headed west over open country and was able to transition from one steep turn to another at low airspeed and got to focus on my coordination. Landing diagonally across the runway into a crosswind as stopping before the centerline is still fun. At the end of both flights, I felt great, happy, and totally unstressed.

I enjoyed flying the Extra, but I am a Cub guy at heart. J-3, J-5, PA-18, PA-12, PA-11, PA-14, Cubcrafters or American Legend Cub-all are good. Buy one and fly it.

The question of floats adds another layer. Straight floats in Indiana make no sense at all, it I sure do love floats!

Stu - not a super cub, but this might be interesting - the wag aero cub is basically a PA11 - solo from the front if you want. Here is one with an O-200, wheels, skis, and floats for $40k

Very nice. I suspect I might get better use out of wheel skis than straight floats.

That’s what I have in mind. In fact, it looks a lot like Indiana!
