A question for the knowledgeable. Why would Socata not keep the propeller control on the TBM 900?

Meridian style?
Maybe less for the pilot to mess up?
Or, the craft can be managed fine without, and performance meets expectations.

Personally, myself I feel a prop control is not confusing.

It is an electronic governor, should be easy enough to add a 5-position switch that allows selection of rpms down to 1750 with an override that puts it back to 2000 anytime the go-lever is pushed to the forward stop.

Im not sure exactly why they removed the prop control lever. You guys that are old school pilots might miss it more. But from what I have heard, and as was said before, they really wanted to clean up the pedestal to make getting in and out a little easier. Also with the new tied bus and high amp starter, they are trying to make it easier to get fast cool starts. We have seen a lot of excedeence recordings on incoming maintenance at start ups. Maybe they think this will simplify start up by getting closer to a FADEC like start up.

Also, they always want use to start up withe I/S disengaged, then engage it while taxiing for performance runs. Maybe with new shorter starts, we can start with the I/S engaged and reduce FOD coming into the intake.

I think you can still feather the prop on the ground by slapping the throttle stick to the right when at idle. Its still somewhat of a condition lever. As a technician, i'm sure that thing is going to be peach to rig during R&R!

That airplane is such a home run in performance, utility, range, comfort, short field capability and ramp appeal I can hardly stand it. The price is a stinger but it's still a tremendous bang for the buck. I can see a lot of guys who can't quite afford one now want to work that much harder to make it affordable, myself included...

Wasn't it the movie 'As Good as it Gets' where Jack Nicholson says "You make we want to be a better man"?

In this case I can see me whispering gently into the exhaust stack of a new TBM, "Honey you make me want to be a wealthier man..."

Nobody has figured out "how" to paint a Pilatus yet.

Get it right, and that thing will look as good as any big jet. 5 blade won't hurt either.

You are the man for the job!

Agreed. As much as I lust after the Pilatus, I've never seen a paint job on one that has impressed me much. Jason, this has the potential to be your legacy. Hire the right designers and show the world how it's done. :D

If JC does, he should use the vinyl stick on stuff you see for vans and other vehicles. This would allow him to try on a few configurations and paint jobs before spending the money to actually paint the plane.

While I agree that good PC12 schemes aren't common, I think this hull rivals any other manufacturer for looks.

Best looking PC12 I've ever seen. Although the PC 12 isn't the sexiest thing in the sky, that's not what they were going after. They like everyone to notice the cargo door I'm sure. It looks like it's worked out fine for the sales department.

That PC12 is sweet. We had to help transport a wounded warrior into San Antonio and the Pilatus was the way to go, plenty of room for the special wheel chair. We made a special platform on a pallet and it was so easy to get the veteran on and off the airplane. It was seamless, no stress, easy in, easy out. Kudos to that door.
