Who writes those policies?

It depends on the aircraft, with an older T-bone it may be someone like US Specialty, but as you probably know older aircraft are more challenging to insure for the higher limits. For "newer" aircraft (1970's and up) it may be someone like Global Aerospace, Chartis Aerospace, Phoenix Aviation, USAIG or Starr Aviation.

This guy had no intention of killing anyone, and I am sure that he didn't see the jogger. I promise that there are more accidents that kill innocent lives on the highways every day, should we prosecute all of those? I hope that neither of you are ever put into that situation, losing an engine in a single is not fun, I am speaking from experience. Like Kelly McBride said, your brain kind of shrinks to the size of a pea. The amount of disbelief of what is taking place sets in and then you realize you have a problem. Agreed 100%. But you have to realize that that stance does NOT help the GA community.

I am a little surprised someone can post "selfish a@@hole" and "fuk him" and then be surprised at the response. Further to then claim that you didn't call anyone names or show disrespect.... You've misread my quotes and my posts obviously. This is a genteel community. I love all the guys here. We're having a valid argument. If you can't handle it, go post some jokes in "Babbletalk".

You're bashing me but not bashing anyone who has called me names or made personal attacks on me. Why don't you call them out too while your at it? Could it be because you agree with them?

Jason, do you know the victim? Being from Atlanta and in your age group I thought I'd ask... negative.

Not quite in those words. I do sympathize for the wife and kids. It is a horrible tragedy. There is a reason to have life insurance and with a family, I believe the responsible thing to do is have plenty of it and I hope the jogger did. The liability insurance of the aircraft should have to pay an appropriate amount, what that amount is, I don't know, not for me to decide. I do not believe that the pilot should be charged with a crime when it was clearly an accident. I also do not believe he should lose everything he has, including his freedom when it was clearly an accident. I am not in any way, shape, or form saying the joggers family should receive nothing and just deal with it. I just hope that the pilot is not charged for having an accident. That also puts GA in a bad light.

This thread had an opportunity to become an excellent discussion and debate over engine failure, pilot liability, ditching strategy, fate, responsibility, etc.
Instead it just sucks.
Whereas I might not agree with Jason on some of the language he used to characterize the pilot, I think he brought up an excellent topic about ditching, which was subsequently hijacked by a misinterpretation of what he was saying.
I can't believe I'm watching grown men call each other names on an internet forum. Its comical. IT"S AN INTERNET FORUM (That's my 4th or 5th time typing that).
Lighten up.
P.S. Babar, great post.
(from a young IFR pilot who has read Fate is the Hunter, has never had an engine out, and always ends up taking the fat girl home from the bars, because they need lovin' too.)
