I'll try to be as politically correct as possible: An analogy of your situation can me made with, say, a "significant other" that you've had for a good while. She (he) does your laundry, cooks your meals, goes with you anytime you wish, (or not), but she (he) is not looking as spicy as at the beginning. The sex thing is blah, notwithstanding whatever is tried. You are bored out of your gourd, a common occurrence with type A personalities. Now, a smoking hot secretary across the hall catches your fancy. You are fascinated with the thought of way greater performance, regardless of the length of the "trip"; a great ego boost when you parade her (or him, jeez) in the best restaurants, and the irresistible allure of "new smell". (Regardless of cost). The downside of this is that when that new relationship comes to a dissolution, your net worth will be lowered by way more than 10%. Ergo, get the jet. You know you want it, and no one deserves it more than you. The ego boost is comparable on the ramp, and will stay a great chick magnet. Furthermore, you can terminate that jet relationship with a wave of the pen, and it will be way less fiscally impacting. YOLO.

I was recently in this exact situation with a girl. I was totally in love. I was ready to give up everything to make her mine. She was all I could think about. I called my buddy and asked what I should do. I told him "but I'm in love". He said "I think you should just f$%^ her a few more times and be done with it...... By then you'll have it out of your system". I followed his advice and he was right. I've never been happier. She ended up being a total pain in the ass. Does being gun-shy of problems mean I'm low on testosterone? I'm thinking about going and getting checked.

Things I could do but am on the fence about that probably won't give me a return:
Synthetic Vision - $70K 5 blade prop - $70K Paint and Interior - $150K?
If I did all of the above I'd probably just keep it a couple more years. Paint and Interior - $150K?I would do this... There is nothing like climbing into an airplane with a new interior completely different than what you have lived with for years. Next best thing to a new bird.

If I did all of the above I'd probably just keep it a couple more years. $70K for synthetic vision? That is absolutely insane, but everything else will put a smile on your face and make you fall in love again ( think boob job on an old girlfriend... ) Data point on the syn vis: I am building another experimental plane. Just ordered a complete G3X panel from Garmin that includes Syn Vis, radio, GPS, autopilot, transponder with ADSB in/out, antennas, wiring harness, breakers, and switches, ect. Basically every electronic component in the plane. Total invoice- $18,100.00 Tell me avionics are not a racket!

It's just locked behind a password. $70K password.

You may never get the money back, but it’s gotta be less than your transaction costs for changing planes. I enjoy reading about someone who gets as much out of a plane as you do. If it float's or f#$%'s.... rent. If it flies.... buy! you have to buy. I speak from experience.

Username Protected wrote: Look at it this way..... a 2008 PC12 and a 2008 CJ2+ are the same price on the used market. A Phenom 300 is 2X=3X that price. Yes I can get a jet for the same price as my PC12 but not one that can do what I need it to do. Even a used CJ3+ is asking $6.8MM. A new Phenom 300 is $10MM and a new PC24 is $10MM
If you had $100MM in the bank, would you spend 10% of your net worth on a jet? Serious question. If I had 100mm in the bank and a 2008 pc12 and your mission profiles, I would be selling the clown plane and buying the cheapest p300 I could find and then flying the wings off it. There is no rationale explanation for the money i spend on flying now - I wouldn’t expect having more money would increase my rationality. My guess is you are not going to run out of Money whichever path you choose. If I had 100mm, fairly certain I would be earning at least 4mm a year in cash, so I would have zero issue with spending 1mm on flying and having 5-10% of the total tied up in a jet. You have to spend it on something ...

Yes, but what if the jet closed as many doors as it opened due to runway requirements?

Any x-rays or ndt required? That sounds spendy...how much downtime? Is there something more to that? It is an end run to replace the wing attachment hardware without saying so?

Agreed but I don't have $100MM in the bank.
